Especially for older people, Nobody will ever hire them. They will never get another job, not even a low paying job. Employers don't hire the unemployed.
After unemployment benefits dry up, they have zero hope of earning any money to pay bills, get food, housing, medical care.
Their life is over. For however long they have to live, things will just get much, much worse for them. Even if they live long enough to get Social Security, that wont even be enough to live on. They will have depleted any savings by that time anyway.
There is no hope.
My older brother is facing this right now. He is 60. He has been out of work for two years. His 401k is just about gone, he has sold most of his possessions. He eats very little and even re-uses coffee grounds for coffee. He has no medical insurance anymore. Soon he wont be able to pay the property taxes on his home.
He is slowing losing everything he ever worked for.
I know he is thinking about suicide, he has sort of mentioned it in passing, in a off hand sort of way.
What else is he suppose to do?
