Until the governmnet throws your ass in jail without trial.[QUOTE="Socijalisticka"]
Honestly, I wouldn't mind it.

Assuming it bothers, They could just shoot him instead.
Do we get to call every comrades and drink vodka, like water. And get the best national anthem every made, plus those cool hats.
But in all seriousness no it would be horrible in the US, we would have a endless civil war. A large chunk of US citizens are well armed.

[QUOTE="biggest_loser"]The US government should be run by people on the Internet, announcing bills through Facebook messages! worlock77

And the US military is much better armed.
True, but it is possible that many military members would defect. Afterall soldiers do take an oath to uphold the constitution and to disobey illegal orders.[QUOTE="worlock77"][QUOTE="biggest_loser"]The US government should be run by people on the Internet, announcing bills through Facebook messages! Democracy at its purest?
essentially Not really, since that would essentially alienate all the people who either lack access to the internet or don't know how to use it.[QUOTE="whipassmt"]Until the governmnet throws your ass in jail without trial.Like it already has to some people? That's probably been only in a few rare cases, nothing compared to the showtrials under Stalin.[QUOTE="Socijalisticka"]

True, but it is possible that many military members would defect. Afterall soldiers do take an oath to uphold the constitution and to disobey illegal orders. That's the way it is now yes, but that isn't the question. No leader has power unless he has the support of the military. And since the question is about a totalitarian government (rather than the actual US government) we should assume for the purposes of this hypothetical that the government has the support of the military.

Democracy is, essentially, the rule of the majority. I'm fairly certain that a majority of households in the US now have internet access.
the government should be run by people trained to run it. if you want to be president you should need degrees and or experience in law, foreign affairs, history, leadership and economics.
only the best and brightest should be allowed to be in the government.
the entire idea of politicians and electing people with no experience or training to run a country or state or anything is stupid.
would you let a chef run your accounting agency, a football player conduct your orchestra or have a lawyer conduct surgery?
the country should be run by trained professionals and should be regulated and judged by the people not selected by them.
politics and politicians have no place in government.

Yeah, let's just forget 200 and some odd years of history, let's forget the constitution, and let's forget the progress we made in all the world.
Totalitarian governments can certainly be more effective at getting sh*t done (at least as long as it's inline with their particular agenda), but the cost in liberty (and usually life) is far too great.
worlock77
That's assuming they're going the right direction at all times, or else they'd be more effective completely screwing up a country.countries face different situation when they go through different development stages, I highly doubt a totalitarian government can get it right everytime they encounter a problem.

It assumes nothing of the sort. It only assumes that they're effective in getting their agenda (whatever that agenda may be) through.
well totalitarianism was just a step stone for humanity. it consolidated power and moved us from the feudal system. and democracy served its purpose by moving us from monarchies and totalitarianism but keeping consolidated power and improving human freedoms.
now we should be moving as far away as we can from democracy and towards technocracy(look it up). the general populace is not fit to choose the leader of a country because they know nothing about running one. just like the people they elect.
politics and politicians have no place in government.
Yes, because it would be awesome to know that the FBI could drag me out of my home at any time with no reason at all.Wasdie
