I do not mean whether it is legal or what the current standing on issue is. The benefits are great for using death row prisoners for medical testing. If they die, there is no liability. They don't have to be paid or housed. It gives them the opportunity to give back to society. It is a waste of human resources to not use them. So should we use death row prisoners for medical experiments?

I kind of agree with this, even though we are talking about murderers.

we should just put em all on a huge island and have em fight it out, a la Battle Royale. Last surviving prisoner gets his freedom + a $5 Sears Gift Card.

Corruption and political plays tend to leave victims. Why would you want a free pass to do that?

Make it a mystery prize at the beginning that turns out to be a Bed Bath & Beyond gift card in the end.

I meant people that are locked up because of corruption (of the system) and political reasons [not theirs]. But yeah was probably confusing after the victimless crime thing.

if they give consent.

and even then medical ethics dictate you recieve INFORMED consent from the recipient that whatever experiment your doing may cause short term or long term adverse health effects. If the prisoner is sick with said disease/condition that the experiment pertains to, that you have to explicit inform them that the experiment might actually cause harm - read physical pain from the meds/injections - and may not cure their disease/condition at all.

human test subjects are really hard to come by and for good reason.

What's up with all the carebears... They are on death row. that means they did some pretty messed up stuff and therefore don't really deserve any mercy. So yes, if the rest of humanity would benefit from experimenting on these twisted individuals then why not?

If you're going to have a death penalty then I don't see any problem so long as they agree to go along with it, from a pragmatic stance. Morally I'm against the death penalty however.

no thats cruel and unusual punishment. I mean if they are death row they are gonna get theres eventually. The thing about justice is you want to try and not sink the the same level of criminals. now if they consent fine but i doubt most would since theres nothing in it for them.

deathrow itself as a concept is a f cking joke though, thus TC presents a moot point since there should be no precedense to substantiate such a notion to begin with

God no, the death pentalty in itself is flawed since innocent people have been sent to their death. Why would I want to subject potentially innocent people to medical experiments? Not to mention the fact that the prison system is supposed to REHABILITATE, not dehumanize.

What about those innocents that got sent to prison because an over zealous prosecutor wanted to trump up charges on some innocent person just because he already spoke out against him and would look stupid if he took it back after realizing they might have the wrong guy?

Do they get to go free too?

no, the the prison industrial complex might benefit too much from it, they'll need more test subjects and just start sending people to death row for lesser crimes

No. Yea the guys on Death Row did some heinous stuff but who wants to live under a government that can not only gain the right to kill its citizens but also experiment on them.

But if the prisoners give consent then they can have at it.

"Should I be allowed to track down that jerk who stole my baseball cards and then slowly mutilate him while he screams and begs for mercy?" A) You know that this isn't happening any time soon, so why even ask the question? Only reason to even bring this up is as a veiled way of stating how much you personally hate death row prisoners and want them to suffer. B) Though I'm not ignoring the possibility that it CAN happen. After all, it wasn't that long ago that millions of jews were exterminated, with some of them dying for the purpose of scientific experiments. Realizing that this can happen and has happened on a HUGE scale very ****ing recently ought to be disturbing to you.

Another good point. Take someone on death row, and offer them to be a test subject in an experiment that very well may kill them anyway, in a horrible manner. And even if they survive the experiment, they're still on death row and will be executed anyway. So...what is the incentive for them giving consent? At the very least, you've gotta throw them a bone. Like...instead of being executed, their sentence is reduced to life if they agree to consent to the experiment. Otherwise, it'd just be FORCING them to be test subjects in experiments. And I don't think any rational person would not have a problem with that.
