For the three people here that might be intrested in the Shrek films the director of the fourth has been announced. His name: Mike Mitchell.  The films he directed:

Sky High and Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigelow.

I don't think the Shrek films are remembered for their quality writing and direction, but in my opinion, hiring the guy who made a Disney version of X-men rip-off and is responsible for keeping Rob Schnider employed isn't exactly the way to go. I case you're intrested:

The first was good, the second one didn't seem neccessary, but a third? Pointless. A fourth? ZOMFG :|

They sell well, also, what's left in the third before it comes out?  Some editing?  Producing reels and stuff?

I'm sure the reason they're working on the fourth is cause they can.

They always do that kind of stuff. You kinda have to plan ahead a little bit.

You're right, they do very well.  But is it a quality animated film series?  At least with the Disney animated films back in it heyday, even with the Pixar stuff, there's scenes and jokes a lot of people remember long after you've seen the film.  With the Shrek films you don't get that.  They're the type of films you watch and forget about a week later.

I know.  You would think they would get a director who has done animation instead of live action.  They could at least found someone who might have made a GOOD film.

I loved the first two, assuming the 3rd is as good or almost as good as the first two, I welcome a fourth even.

I don't see how they'd need a reason to make a sequal, unless it's some dramatic saga or whatever, assuming it's not, then I don't see why they can't make more. If they were to do that to the Godfather, that would suck, but I could care less if they did that to a cartoon.

I get where you're coming from with that, but I think that kids shouldn't be subjected to watching a mediocre sequel to an animated film.  Take a look at Disney...they make a ton of direct to video sequels to movies they put out 40-50 years ago, with writing and animation that can't hold a candle to the original product.

Yeah, that's true. Kind of like crappy game Licenses for Lilo and Stich or whatever.

It could be worse. On IMDb it says that they planned the release date for Spiderman 3 before Spiderman 2 was even finished. At least Shrek is a decent CGI film series worth continuing.

They will keep making it until it wont sell anymore. But as long as they get a couple of million as profit be expecting new Shrek movies every couple of years. Plus the kids love this.

Indeed. Considering the last film made well over $900,000,000 I can't imagine them stopping anytime soon. That's not even taking into consideration all the product license tie-ins and DVD sales. Good lord what a monster of a franchise!

Its a buisness, if it makes money they'll keep making more of it.  Dreamworks is the pimp, Shrek is the whore.  They could care less if its funny/edgy/briliant, all they see is the green(no pun intended), and if they see enough of it they'll keep pimping it out to the world.
