How many people here have listened to (or even heard of) ska music? Its basically rock with brass instruments. Most bands have a lot of funk/jazz influences so it tends to be a very upbeat/positive genre.

Some ska bands are...

Big D and the Kids Table
Buck-O-Nine
Catch 22
Goldfinger
Less than Jake
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Mustard Plug
Reel Big Fish
Streetlight Manifeso

discuss?

I like ska, I love oldschool punk but boy do I ever loathe ska-punk. Please don't mix things up, this =/= this :P

Ska is great music yet its unfortunate alot of people arent aware of it. Also the bands listed come under the category of 3rd wave ska if u want to get into it sub genre.

To stay away from categorization is to admit that you're not a homo sapiens sapiens, so yeah, good luck with that.

Streetlight Manifesto doesn't like being called a "ska" band, but they are obviously ska influenced, and by far my favorite band ever. I don't listen to much traditional ska, but 90's style third wave ska will always have a place on my iPod.

I actually find those arguments some of the funniest to over hear or be a part of, usually people arguing these sub genres whether it be ska, metal, punk, etc. tend to be more elitist which means making up things about music aka miley cyrus is hardcore deathmetal usually gets a serious reaction.
