I actually just got a new one kinda recently, it was cheap though. Its like half a year old and I find I have an easier time sleeping on the side I dont usually sleep on if I cant fall asleep because its not compacted like the side I usually sleep on. I probly should have gotten a firmer matress, dont let those soft ones fool you people, they fooled me and once they compact its a terrible sleep.

lol yep. I walk home. Sleep from about 3:30 to 6:30 then eat dinner, then go to the gym. After that i watch TV for a little bit and then it takes me hours to fall a sleep. I usually don't go to sleep till about 2 or 3 AM. Still i'm getting about 6-7 hours of sleep a day so thats not bad.

Don't nap after school? I don't know what else to suggest, but it sounds like your body just can't get back to sleep after so much rest earlier. If you do need a nap, cap it at half an hour, make yourself get up, and see how the night goes.

You might be like me and suffer from insominia, which is defined as inability to get a restful sleep. I usually sleep from 12-7, school is 7-3 approx. I usually am dead tired and must nap even though I have had enough sleep. I never wake up feeling refreshed, I want to consult a Dr about this but and will probably do it around summer time.

@ravirr, just go to the doctor now instead of waiting. It would be nuts to just wait until the summer, when you dont have that habit during the summer.

Yeah, you're probably right. But for some reason, even though I am a nursing student, and spend two days a week in a hospital taking care of patients. I just have a fear of going to the Doctor haha. Its weird. I guess I'll make a call tomorrow.

When do you get back from school? Assuming you get back at like 3:30 or 4, that means that you have 3-4 hours of sleep immediately after you get back from school.

Couldn't it be that, well... you're not tired when you go to bed at 12? Why not just not have that nap when you get home?

Stop sleeping once you get home and your problem will most likely be solved.

Also, are you ingesting a lot of sugar or caffeine before bed?

I used to have those sleeping issues as well, except that I didn't sleep after school. In fact, I didn't sleep at all... Try reading a book before going to bed, it should help ;)

Don't nap.

Go to bed every day at the same time. and wake up at the same time. EVEN if you're having a hard time falling asleep. Dont' start watching t.v. don't start wandering around. Use your bed for sleeping.. if you start doing other things in your bed like watching tv.. you start to associate your bed with that behavior.. your bed needs to be associated with you sleeping. NOT watching t.v. or playing videogames, or reading for long periods of time.

Also you need to get more phsyical activity after school.. Start weight lifting, join a sports team. Go outside and play. Sitting around at school all day.. then going home and taking a nap.. and probably just watching tv or playing videogames.. is not going to tire you out.. all you're doing is over stressing your brain, which feels tired, because it's so stressed out from never getting a break... which will make it harder to sleep since your brain is stressed.

Many people in industralized societies take sleeping for granted. Its one of the most important things involving health related issues, in the long and short term.. but people ignore it all together for the sake of getting more "work" done. It's really unfortunate.

It's really no wonder mental health issues, drug addictions, are so rampant in our society. People simply don't take care of themselves for the sake of doing more "stuff".

I used to do the same everyday when I was in HS. Although I slept like a baby all the way through 12/1-7.

So yeah that wasn't helpful at all but thanks for reminding me. :3

I don't think it's the napping itself that is the problem, just how long the nap is. If you just take the nap for like 20 minutes, it would be better. But actually sleeping would be a bad idea if you want to be able to sleep at night.

drugs are no answer. phenegran is PRESCRIBED for anti-nausea. in the states anyway im pretty sure you need a prescription for that. simply sleep is an over the counter drug that does the job (from the makers of tylenol.).

not making any accusations here. but 90% of the teenage population in the USA will claim they are an insomniac. TC you just dont need that nap after school. instead of taking that nap. stay awake and go to bed at 11. you'll feel much better durring the day and wont need the nap.

like you i spend my nights tossing and turning and hardly get 5hrs of sleep a night. but thats more to do with stress than anything else. i suck with stress. but do not take any drugs for it. you dont need them.

Yep, that's what happens to me, if I'm trying to get back into that pattern - so I don't sleep afterschool. But it's only a matter of time, because I can get used to it in 3 days, but I'd rather not go through the sleep deprivation.

That's what I think is the best solution. I definitely need to take it since I also have similar problems as the TC does, but not as extreme.

I'm the same way but in my case I'm almost positive it's due to a circadian rhythm disorder (probably delayed sleep phase syndrome). The reason I say that is because I'm usually very sleepy in the afternoon no matter how much sleep I get, and if I let myself take a nap I'll be out cold in five minutes. However, no matter how tired I may be during the day, once 11 pm hits I'm completely wide awake and it takes me hours to get to sleep. If I allow myself to just sleep the way I want then what usually winds up happening is that I go to sleep at about 7-9 am and wake up at about 6-7 pm. I was actually on that reversed sleep schedule over winter break and it's taken me about two weeks of hard effort and planning to get back to a schedule that resembles anything normal (last night I went to bed at 9 pm and woke up at 7:15 am although before that I was going to bed at about 4-8 pm and waking up at 2-6 am).

With you though it sounds like you just need to quit taking that nap during the day as it sounds like what's happened is that you've split your sleep/wake cycle into two periods instead of one.

Don't sleep after school, or work it into your pattern so you take advantage of the time between 7pm and 2am. I found the time between 11pm and 2am was my best time to study and do schoolwork :P
