Think about it. What would happen to someone who died on a planet 5 billion light years away. Would they still end up going to the same heaven you think we end up going to? Because eventually humankind will get that far. Plus, where do alians go when they die.

And, now that we know that some animals are self-aware, do they just cease to exist? Because it never says in the bible that animals go to heaven.

well since the belief is that heaven is a completley spiritual realm, it wouldn't matter where someone died.

and as for aliens, it is said that only humans have souls, so aliens wouldn't go to heaven

and neither do animals, no matter how self aware they are

So "God" would create a possibly MORE intelligent being than humans, but because they don't have a "Soul" they are screwed?

Considering that no religious person I know pictures heaven as being a place that has a physical distance away from Earth, I find it hard to answer the question as it seems based on entirely faulty assumptions.

As for the question of whether or not other animals go to the same place as humans, I don't believe there's really a theological consensus on that among world religions.

There are MANY different schools of thought when it comes to heaven/afterlife/aliens in conjuction with the Bible, etc.. The fact is that most of the interpretations of what the Bible even says about heaven, hell, god, angels, demons, etc.. come from early Catholic Church interpretations. If you go back and read the Bible now, with a completely open mind (but with the perspective of someone who know about modern science and technology).. it reads like a story about extraterrestrial interference (and possible creation) in the affairs of humans. At least that's my take on it. I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness, and was NEVER allowed to talk openly about extraterrestrials, or challenge any of the interpretations of the Bible that the organization put forth. But the reality is that what may have seemed spiritual or supernatural 5,000 years ago to a primitive people could just be highly advanced technology. All supernatural means is science that we don't yet understand.

well that's the entire concept of the soul. it's something not part of the physical universe, yet part of us at the same time. so when we die, our soul leaves our physical body and goes to heaven, hell, or purgatory. if a creature, no matter how intelligent, has no soul, then there is nothing to go to the other realm.

I thought it would make an interesting sci-fi concept for us to encounter an alien race with religion only to realize their religion is more convincing, has more evidence to back it up, and we realize we were never part of the one true God's plan.

What do you mean by that? We do have proof that aliens exist, on mars there are fossils of bacteria. So it makes sense that there are more "aliens" in the universe, and with the huge size of the universe and almost infinite combinations there must be aliens more advanced than us. But because these aliens don't have a soul, they have an eternity of nothingness? Why would God create them then? Why would "God" create life if there was no point to it.

OK, now I'm pretty sure that religious people do not affirm that all alien lifeforms have no souls.

So what exactly would a bacteria do in heaven? Also, another question: For someone with Alzheimer's or a similar disease where they can't remember anything or are unable to think, are they returned to their usual state of conscience when they go to heaven? Why would "God" even make someone forget about their entire lives and cause pain and suffering for family members.

Who says that God controls the details of life on Earth at this time? The Bible says that "the world lies in the power of the wicked one" at present.

Well if we assume for a moment that it's a conscious entity (which it probably isn't), then it's not as though in whatever lies ahead it'd be a bacteria; you obviously wouldn't retain your physical body.

Who ever said Aliens, should they exist in an "advanced" form, do not have souls? You are speaking about principles of religions that are not specifically addressed by the religious text of Christianity and/or Judiasm. We have no idea how God would interact with the beings of alien world's. The only way we could apply what our religious texts teach us to other beings is if they were to have the exact same history and divine interventions as mankind. For all we know any alien civilization could be the prime example of perfection and lack of sin, and as thus would not need any divine intervention and thus would not need to visit heaven since they would remain indefinitely on the planet created specifically for them. I am at a loss for words at this topic because it just seems silly. Not because of how religion handles aliens and their souls.

Science is not perfect. It is not an end all solution to all answers. It has it's limits, the human element, is the biggest problem. We require tools to see past our own capabilities, and then we have to ask ourselves, how effective can we make our tools in order to understand the Universe, or Universes? Some people put too much faith in science as an end all solution. I sometimes see very little difference in them than those who put their faith in mythology. It's best to maintain a fundamental understanding that humans make mistakes and what appears to be true now, may not be true at all.
