Since it was shown on Sunday, an episode of the Fox animated comedy "Family Guy" has drawn the repeated condemnation of Sarah Palin, the former Republican governor of Alaska and 2008 vice-presidential nominee.

In the episode, the teenage character Chris dates a girl named Ellen, who has Down syndrome, and who tells him over dinner that her mother is "the former governor of Alaska." Ms. Palin, whose son Trig also has Down syndrome, has said that the "Family Guy" show "really isn't funny" and was the work of "cruel, cold-hearted people." Ms. Palin's daughter Bristol has written that the "Family Guy" writers were "mocking my brother and my family," and called them "heartless jerks."

One person who supports the "Family Guy" staff is Andrea Fay Friedman, the 39-year-old actor and public speaker who played Ellen in that episode. Like the character, Ms. Friedman also has Down syndrome.

In an e-mail message sent on Thursday to The New York Times, Ms. Friedman wrote:

"My name is Andrea Fay Friedman. I was born with Down syndrome. I played the role of Ellen on the "Extra Large Medium" episode of Family Guy that was broadcast on Valentine's day. Although they gave me red hair on the show, I am really a blonde. I also wore a red wig for my role in " Smudge" but I was a blonde in "Life Goes On". I guess former Governor Palin does not have a sense of humor. I thought the line "I am the daughter of the former governor of Alaska" was very funny. I think the word is "sarcasm".

In my family we think laughing is good. My parents raised me to have a sense of humor and to live a normal life. My mother did not carry me around under her arm like a loaf of French bread the way former Governor Palin carries her son Trig around looking for sympathy and votes."

I read that as well. Kinda funny really. Sarah just can't get a break. She has no chance of ever winning a national election. Thank God... (but I really wish the republicans would pit her against Obama next time. ;) )

If Sarah Palin is going to react to a cartoon on TV then I doubt she is ready to become president.

Really? With the economy picking up at a pretty good rate for the past 3-4 months, and plans on Military withdrawal within the next 2-3 years I'm pretty sure things will be looking pretty good for Obama in 2012. I don't think the american public will forget that the Republicans destroyed our economy with two pointless wars and stripped more constitutional rights with the PATRIOT Act than the democrats ever have.

What is wrong with reacting to something that is making fun of your family? I am not saying Sarah Palin is ready to be president but out of all the reasons for her not to become it reacting to an insulting cartoon is the least of the reasons.

Obama's approval ratings are dropping very fast. This November you are going to see a bunch of Democrats kicked out of office and Republicans taking their places. By 2011 election time Obama will have even lower approval ratings than he does now unless he has some miracle happen. Obama is a 1 term president I guarantee that. I will be smiling the day he gets voted out of office so hard it will be ridiculous =)

Because she's a figure of authority or hopes to become one, one day. She is making herself look weak if she shows that a cartoon has hurt her feelings. If she ever wants to be taken seriously then she should have simply ignored it.

This november Democrats will lose their majority, but the Republicans definitely won't have a majority, their will probably still be more Democrats in Senate and Congress than Republicans. Also Obama's approval ratings are low because majority of Americans have no real understanding of economics, so conservatives are able to lie and say things like our economy hasn't improved, when the economy did better than any economist predicted in 2009; and that our deficits is going to be the death of our country when it's obvious to anybody with simple knowledge this debt isn't that sever of a problem.

Maybe you are right, maybe you are wrong. Do you think that the majority of Americans will suddenly come to understand your point of view in time for the next presidential election? I very much doubt it and I stick with my prediction that Obama is a 1 term president and will be out.

Yea,when you take an economy whose GDP was predicted to fall 4-6% and instead the GDP rises 3%, I would call that a bang up job. When you inherit a nation in economic freefall and bring that fall to a complete stop and slow recovery in less than a year, I would call that a bang up job.

Um, you are aware that Ronald Reagan's approval ratings were roughly on par with Obama's right about now, and that the Republicans lost significant ground in Congress in 1982, yes? Trends in politics can be a fickle thing.

Not saying that Obama and the Democrats definitely will rebound, but to claim that Obama will definitely lose and the Democrats will definitely lose even more in 2012 is... a bit presumptuous.

even though the role in the cartoon was played by someone with down syndrome, that person can't speak for the rest of the down syndrome patients. it's just not an issue that's worth joking about. not everybody can find it funny, especially those families with members suffering down syndrome

On the other hand, what will you do if he wins handily again?

[QUOTE="tester962"]It's my prediction and I am sticking to it. I voted for Obama and was a die hard Obama fan when he ran. Since than I have gone in the complete opposite direction and can't wait to see him get kicked out the door =) I believe it will happen and I am hoping that believing something strongly enough will make it come true. Well at least I am hoping =pGabuEx

A die-hard Obama fan who now wants both him and the Congressional Democrats replaced with Republicans?

What, exactly, compelled you to vote for him, if indeed you did?

I did not know much about him when I voted for him. I had hated Bush and was completely against Republicans so I pretty much just voted for him cause he was a Democrat. I did not even intend on voting but a friend of mine asked me to take them to an elementry school so they could vote. I ended up voting along with her. I had the Obama sticker on the back of my car but I really did not know anything about him honestly. After he went into office and I learned more about him I regretted my decision. There are alot of people who voted for Obama who regret it now. We just need t-shirts

I would continue to hate him for another 4 years. I would say I would move out of the country but as of this time I can't afford that even though that is currently my dream for the future. To move to another country.

Complete stop huh? Yeah I don't know what part of the country you are living in but where I live the economy has not been getting any better.tester962

Sucks for you, but if you use national statistics, the economy is getting better now. The NATIONAL economy is recovering.

Sure does not seem like its recovering. Still alot of people jobless out there. Alot of people have given up on even looking now and arent counted in the total percentage of unemployment

It doesn't matter if it "seems" like it's recovering, it is recovering. Even if you try to use the argument that unemployment hasn't really dropped, if you look at other indicators such as GDP, interest rate spreads, retail sales, it's easy to see that our economy is improving, and there is no reputable argument to that.

Interesting, please tell me why you hate him? Because I'm under the impression you don't understand economics/politics.

If you hated Bush and were completedly against Republicans, then why exactly do you now want them back in office?

yes, it came directly from her email. They have her contact information because they have interviewed her before all this happened.

Owww....

I read that as well. Kinda funny really. Sarah just can't get a break. She has no chance of ever winning a national election. Thank God... (but I really wish the republicans would pit her against Obama next time. ;) )

That would be the only way Obama would win a 2nd term

Um, you are aware that Ronald Reagan's approval ratings were roughly on par with Obama's right about now, and that the Republicans lost significant ground in Congress in 1982, yes? Trends in politics can be a fickle thing.

Not saying that Obama and the Democrats won't rebound, but to claim that Obama will definitely lose and the Democrats will definitely lose even more in 2012 is... a bit presumptuous.

It's my prediction and I am sticking to it. I voted for Obama and was a die hard Obama fan when he ran. Since than I have gone in the complete opposite direction and can't wait to see him get kicked out the door =) I believe it will happen and I am hoping that believing something strongly enough will make it come true. So basicly your an average American, someone who formulates their opinions based on what they hear from others/the news?

If Sarah Palin is going to react to a cartoon on TV then I doubt she is ready to become president. xTheExploited
Not the first time.
