So do we really need glasses for this whole 3d thing?

Is there any way that I could like, twist my head or scrunch up my eyes in a weird way and make the same effect?

Perhaps make a circle and look through my fingers? I tried to find some red-and-blue stained glass windows to look through but there weren't any that I could legally shatter and take.

They're actually working on 3D televisions that don't require glasses. The TV screens have vertical ridges that jut in and out.

They are working on it. Companies know the key to mainstreaming 3D TV is to exclude glasses.

If the image is shown on a single two-dimensional surface, then yes, glasses are required.

Seriously, someone needs to like explain, someone needs to take a step back and say, "okay, here's the deal with 3d"

Because I'm honestly just clueless as to what's going on. Are we moving closer to the Jetsons and Futurama type future?

Not since stereoscopy was first discovered over 150 years ago. Its merely a matter of crossing your eyes to make matching images pop out at you (one for each eye). The only reason they are needed for televisions and movie screens is because you are sitting so far back from the display point, that crossing your eyes won't work.

That's what they said about home computers, bro.GHlegend77

Stereoscopic 3D has been on-again-off-again for the past few decades, especially in movies. Is there any real benefit to making some images jump out of the screen at viewers beyond making them go "woah dude!"? Hell, stereoscopic 3D has been around longer than motion pictures, and it hasn't even come close to being a majorly popular, and commercially successful gimmick for that entire time. Its brought in some money for some people, but hasn't taken hold yet, nor has shown any real benefits beyond being "neat".

Who exactly finds it cool or "neat"? 12 year olds? Kids going to Disney land? I'll never understand the public. People must be downright sickly bored of their pathetic lives.

whaaa? So much rage over 3D. It's just a feature that may or may not be here for the long run. You make it sound like it some kind of gang.

What? No. I'm just saying that it's pretty common for people, the same people that soak up the tabloids and "celebrity' "gossip" like a sponge, to try to find just something to artificially enrich their lives because taking a good hard look at it, no amount of beer will make them forget how sad it is.
