So does anyone actually think Glenn Beck is a rational person?

I switched my major recently to Political Science, and I found out that I am required to read a Glenn Beck book sometime in my major... I found this news very upsetting, seeing as how he is a moron and what not...

*shrug* I wouldn't be surprised if some of the TV political personalities don't even believe a word they're saying. They just know how to get the ratings.

He pretty much is a Bi-Polar right wing conspiracy theorist who was fired from CNN and had a prior drinking problem. All Cable news to me is a joke.

As rational as Olbermann or Maddow. As much as people rag on O'Reilly, after watching him, I find him to be the most consistently tough on everybody. Campbell Brown is a joke.

Well that's obviously biased, I'd like you to show me something of Olbermann or Maddow as contradicting as this.

I always enjoy watching Glen Beck's show but I do not form my political opinion from just his show.

I hope not. It would be nice, if Fox were to actually care about integrity, to actually have a rational conservative commentator who actually thinks for himself instead of just reciting talking points (or in Glenn's case, crazy BS). Ironically, I'd say MSNBC's Joe Scarborough is the closest thing to that (although that's not exactly saying much considering all the other conservative commentators who host their own show).

He's almost as insane as Bill O'Reilly. He has a strange "Us" vs. "Them" mentality. I think that has to do with minorities or something. I didn't realize we were still in the pre-industrial revolution era.

Someone has to give the other side of the story. He may be somewhat extreme, but thats what he has to do to get ratings.

I don't plan to get into a urinating contest to prove who is more partisan... It's unbecoming, and fruitless if you are honest with yourself.

looky here, I'm not a huge glenn follower, most of what I see of him is when other shows on comedy central or msnbc make fun of him. The thing is you can't hold these people to some golden standard for back pedaling or being a good person.

What he does on a basic level is point out in his opinion of needless government spending and corruption in Washington.Soif you set aside all the quarky drama, the message is one that a lot but not all people agree with.

The message he gives is incredibly incoherent, not to mention often intellectually dishonest. I am not holding anyone to a golden standard, just a standard of rationality. Conservatives like George Will, David Brooks, David Frum, ect. are infinitely better than Glenn Beck and most other Fox news commentators like O'Reilly and Hannity. What they say is, more often than not, actually based in reality.

LikeI mentioned before, extremists get ratings. There is a reason why people like Beck, Hannity, Olbermann, Maddow etc. are household names with hour long network shows and the lot you mentioned are only columints and contributers.

What you are basically doing is sayying "he does not think like me, I do not like that," lets say he is irrational.

He may not always be all-rational, which means he would have to be very calm, but he is very judicious, though I do not watch the news every day. But, when I do see him, I never see any huge flaws in his thinking. He gets ratings because he shows some anger, if he was completely rational, he would be boring >_>.

I would like to know this as well, Maddow always seems very level headed and normally only basis her opinion ( if she even gives it ) on pure factual basis. Just because she disagrees with something doesn't mean she is an extremist, I think people like Hannity and Beck are extremist because they will contradict themselves anytime Fox tells them to. On the other hand, I have seen Maddow and even occasionally Olbermann question the Democrats before, just as they question the Republicans for the majority.

I've never seen Maddow bash conservatives for just being conservative - I've seen her bash Republicans who act ridiculously and bash conservatives for not being honest about things, but never have I seen her bash conservatives merely because she doesn't agree with them ideologically. I can't say the same for Beck, who, for example, called an economic professor from Harvard, "Stalin" because he was advocating for a lower-class tax cut, and who regularly slanders liberals and progressives. Not once have I seen that kind of behavior on the Rachel Maddow Show.

That's the kind of moronic statements I'm talking about. To claim that the President of the United States is a racist is ridiculous, and I said the same thing when people called Bush a racist. ( Which by the way Olbermann and Maddow also said the same thing when left wing nuts called Bush a racist ) I don't see anything wrong with calling Beck a right wing nut for calling Obama a racist. But really it goes deeper than that, he is just plain ignorant, and he uses others' ignorance to have a show.

No, I don't think it's denial, I've never seen a single drop of evidence that Olbermann or Maddow are as crazy and idiotic as Beck, they both use proven facts, with documentation to make their points. Beck uses conspiracy theories and basically nothing to support his cases.

Yes theres people even on GS that listen to these people. Conservative politics wouldnt be so bad if things werent so black and white in America. Fox News is the most popular news network in America and they hire people like Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh. Sad but true.

Actually, I used to like Glenn Beck, especially when he first got to Fox News I found him very entertaining, but now after well over half a year I've come to the conclusion that he does not deserve a TV show.
