Has anyone had a kidney stone? If so, how did you survive it  I heard some very terrifying stories today of this guy that had one. Literally brought him to his knees screaming in pain :? Said it was as if his insides were getting nuked.

I haven't had one but I know some who have. You get it from not drinkign enough water apparently. And they crush them before you have to pee them out nowadays.

one stradegy i learned to ease pain from stones is to turn upside down for a while, so that it's not in the same spot.

I woke in the night and spent 45 minutes constantly wincing and cringing and in deep pain, waiting for it to grind itself out. My friend gets at least two a week. He regularly has them lasered or something, but it rarely helps. I feel real bad for him.

I've had one, it sucks.. been there for like 2 years, or passed w/o my knowledge, but when it's only hurt 2x, and for almost 5 hours exactly each time, oxycodone did not in anyway dull the pain, just made me throw up... dunno why I was prescribed it.

My sister told me the same thing when she was trying to convince me to stop drinking soda. Don't know if it's true. I've heard about plenty of people who cry because it hurts so bad

Soda can contribute to the risk of getting kidney stones. There's a lot of other factors as well, though.

He was writhing in pain for days

Had my first one last year. I'd rather be kicked in the babymakers repeatedly then have to go though that kind of pain again.

Mainly because it feels like someone stabbing the babymakers, and can last for hours.

The pain I felt had me thinking my appendix had burst. I had to literally crawl to my front door to have someone take me to the hospital. By the time my fiance came to the hospital to pick me up, I was just a sad sight...and blitzed to the gills from the morphine the doctor gave me for the pain.

I did once, one day I felt like I had to pee but couldn't, then I had a hard to locate pain and couldn't figure out where it was just that it was in a general region (ended up being in the region between my kidneys and bladder, I went to the doctor and they loaded me up on an IV of saline solution to hydrate me and determined I had a kidney stone, they gave me a screen to piss through to catch the stone to determine the cause and I used it but didn't catch a thing when I used the toilet at home (could have passed it elsewhere), and I never felt it pass on the way out as I heard is very painful. It must have been small. They can get quite big though, Wikipedia has a picture of an 8mm kidney stone and I imagine that must have hurt like a bitch to pass.

nope, but I drink a lot of water.  City water.

I heard a lot of hard alcohol and well water can cause kidney stones.
