So it is the year 2030. A part of land is sectioned off, a "secret Eutopia". Apparently, everyone that lives there is at peace. No greed, no pain, no wars. Just peace.

But apparently, the reason why this place exists, is because of this newly special type of surgery, that rids of certain human emotions. So basically, these people living in this "peaceful" land, is sort of "brain dead" in the "drama and pain" sense. Everybody agrees, and everybody is happy.

Would you support something like this? Would you sacrifice the way humans disagree, fight and argue, and cause pain, for a world like this?

No. I love my emotions, and as much as I hate what the ugliness of the world I wouldn't trade what makes me to make a better world I couldn't be happy about.

I know somebody who would jump out of their skin at the chance to be stripped of emotion. I wouldn't do it. I'd sooner kill myself than be brain dead like that.

No. I'd rather be in a war torn hellhole than lose my emotions. A true monster is one who feels nothing, imo.

With pleasure comes pain.

To feel joy, you must also welcome misery.

To truly live is to to feel all, and rise above the bad.

Sounds a bit like the world in Harrison Bergeron.

So (as anyone who's read the story would know) it probably wouldn't end well.

Very much like the Giver, then :P. As bad as it sounds (beep bop we are robots), as somebody living a fairly cushy life, as do fellow North Americans or just about anybody living in a "modern" country, we have little to complain about to want to live in that state. Compared to the wartorn, malnutritioned Africa, this is the utopia people yearn to get to. From where we are right now, your utopia is a huge step down from our perch.

On the flip side of that coin, I'd totally stay in the Matrix. It's scary out in the real world.

Not to sound dramatic or anything, but those are essential components of the human experience.

No matter how much we complain about "drama" or how much we dislike the feeling of "pain" (both emotional and physical), our lives would be extremely shallow without them.

They are as essential as happiness and ignorance ("drama" is, imo, caring too much about stuff...apathy is the opposite I suppose?) to being human.

I wouldn't want to, but after the surgery I guess I'd be pretty contented, and wouldn't mind the fact that I'm emotionless.

The topic sort of reminds me of that secret Eutopia thing from Fallout 3.

I'd prefer a post-apocalyptic world with zombies. Just me, a squad, and some big ass guns.

Never will happen, war is human nature.

Last I checked, the letter "e" is not in the word "utopia."

If they want, go ahead. This has been the theme of many novels. This is a more extreme version of communism, btw.

The no crime would be impossible. Eventually something from the outside world would find it's way into this place.

It'd be great until people started splicing their DNA.
