So I got a death threat from a Craigslist user today

I listed an item and got a scammer reply. The typical IS YOUR ITEM STILL FOR SALE AND WHAT CONDITION IS IT IN!!! ( even though it was all listed )

So I replied to him and told him to stick it and stop scamming people. I got a reply a little while ago that said he was going to come to where i am and kill me and my family. He apparently drives a porche and wants to harm me. And that i was messing with the "wrong person" lol

the issue is i listed my phone number for the craigslist sale, i quickly deleted the post right after i got the reply. Am i doomed?

Firsr thing I will say is that no matter how tempting it is don't provoke him. Sure, most people on the internet just want a bigger e-peen, but you never know when one of them will actually track you own. =/

people list their phone numbers on the item listing...which i did. Soright after I got the reply from him, i removed the listing. Odds are good he got my phone number. Guess im screwed eh?

Completely disregard it. Someone who you dealt with on the net and don't even know is not going to bother dealing, much less killing, you for something that trivial. He's just pissed you called him for what he was. The worst he's going to do is maybe a few obscene phone calls. If it bothers you that much report it to CL.

How could he infer your address from your telephone number without searching through every entry in every telephone directory in your area? Only law enforcement agencies have access to databases indexed by telephone number.

Of course, he may actually be a law enforcement officer, ... :shock:

I'm pretty sure he isn't going to fly all the way from nigeria to kill you, so you're fine.

Also, internet tough guys are all lies, if he really owned a porsche, and was coming to kill you, he wouldn't message back. It's become a common nigerian scam tactic, threaten death if the person doesn't go for it, and demand they send the item anyways.
