I'm not Catholic and, if i was, I'd realize that God probably has bigger things to worry about than somebody giving up Reece Puffs for a few weeks. I wonder how many Catholics will give something stupid like that up, yet go out and have pre-marital sex and do myriad other things that are more egregious, in the eyes of those who espouse belief, than not eating meat on Fridays...xXBuffJeffXx
It's not what you give, but how you react to it. We're supposed to give up something sacred. For example, a child is not supposed to give up brocoli because the child does not like it in the first place, rendering the sacrifice useless. Now, sacrificing candy tests the person's will, and that's what God looks after. As I said before, me stopping to play World of Warcraft may sound a bit silly, but, for a daily player, it will test me.
Lastly, while you do not approve of what we catholics do, I advise to keep your opinions to yourself. I respect your religion (or lack of), but I would not go as far as you would to bash our beliefs by calling it stupid, thank you very much.
