Hi everyone, I have a question for you. So you know how every day, new things grow, and after a while, they die? For example, many animals are born every day, and many animals die ever day. When the animals are continually born, they add more volume to the world. And when these animals die, their bodies decompose to dust or whatever and add to the volume of the world. So wouldn't this mean that every time animals are born and then die, they keep adding to the volume of the earth, making the volume of the earth continually grow?? Let me give an example. Let's say that I have an infinite deck of cards. Each card is an animal, and the table I place the cards on is the earth. If I put one card down every day, the deck gets bigger, adding to the mass of the world. When the card (or the animal) dies, it's remains still stay on the earth, and always will. So this means I will keep adding a card every day, and the table will overflow with cards! So wouldnt this make the earth continue to be filled with dead animals and it will eventually overflow?? Or is the earth just continually growing? If you didn't understand my question just say so and I'll try to explain it again.

No, animals are basically reborn from the material that comes from decomposed animals.

Basically you're not drawing from a deck at all, you're just using the cards that are already on the table and moving them around. So the number of cards stay the same.

All elements that make us up are never destroyed or created, they just get reused. Once an animal dies, the material that makes up his eye could one day make up a tree bark or something else.

Matter cannot be made or destroyed. It's a cycle.

Well first of all, you didn't need to give the card example. I wasn't born yesterday. And second of all I don't want to answer your question because it is Friday night and i'm looking forward to a nice quiet weekend where I will relax.

The answer is that the growth and reproduction of life doesn't come from nowhere. The aenergy and matter for these processes comes from existing energy and matter by autotrophic nutrition in plants and heterotrophic nutrition in animals.

i understand what you guys mean about how they recycle the stuff or whatever, but after an animal EATS another animal, they have to POOP the animal back out, so it still stays as part of the volume of the earth.

Not the entire matter they've consumed, just the parts they can't digest. If you were right there would be no point in eating.

No, I think you were born today. Because in the time you wasted to write this message, you could've either anwered my question, or done something else. Welcome to earth, by the way.

Except all the matter that makes up those animals originates from the Earth, so when they die it just rejoins it.

And another animal is made out of that matter eventually.
