I filled up my truck two days ago, and got a whole tank of gas for $45.

Over June, it cost me up to $101 for a tank.  I realize stores are hurting, but gas is cheap for now!!!  Also, I noticed HDTV's are like 400 dollars cheaper than they were a year ago.

Anyone else getting some nice surprised during this recession.

I know! Gas is only $1.54 here in Des Moines! Who knew all it took was a global economic crisis to get gas prices back under control?! :D

I don't have any stocks, retirement accounts, etc. This crisis has benefitted me with cheap gas. Nothing else. Period. I put my money into a high yield savings account which (admittedly) has had lower interest rates, but I'm still making money on the money I make. It's funny how it wasn't a crisis when gas was double what it is now...

Yeah, the gas has been nice. The last time I checked, gas was down to about $1.70/gallon here in Fargo, ND, but that was on Friday, so who knows what it is today.

Enjoy it while you can. When the economy comes back up, so will the gas prices.

I hope this doesnt cause people to run to the dealership and get a full size SUV without thinking about the cost of gas. The high price gasoline in a way benefits, because it makes people more aware on alternative fuels and finding ways to get cars more efficient. One way to make gas even cheaper is cutting out the ethanol in the fuel.

I knew I should have waited a little longer to get a new tv. Never knew it was going to be a global economic crisis that would make things so cheap. :(

The problem with sort of thinking is it prevents people from being proactive. It makes them sit back and say hey, everything is okay now, we don't need to worry about 5 years down the road. Trust me, your cheap gas prices are only temporary the next time they spike they'll reach over 6 dollars if not higher. And what are we doing about it ahead of time.. nothing, because for the moment, everything appears fine.

The lack of human foresight is our biggest weakness.

You lose meaning in sarcasm. Also you lose the respect of intellectual integrity when you use it to express an emotional state of mind. But, I understand most people use their feelings to express themselves, so I forgive you. Now back to the topic. Do I personally have the solution? No, the solution is bigger than one individual. The use of oil for the last 150 years has become a cultural expectation. Simply, as humans in America, Europe, and parts of Asia we have come to believe that we have a right to travel around inexpensively without need to consider our energy source. Just that it should be inexpensive and available to us. And if it's not, we throw a fit. The only real way to find alternatives and use them is if as a culture we set aside our expectations of oil. It's really a cultural mind set that prevents this from happening. Not a means of technology. Because the technology is available to do so. There is just no market for it because most of us are used to gas and aren't so willing to leave it behind. Why aren't we willing to do this? Because it disrupts the lives we've become accustomed to living. It's really that simple. So as long as we have our cheap gas, we feel good, but then when they take it away, instead of changing how we live, we just throw a tantrum. And then when they give it back to us, instead of looking for a solution we revert back to old habits and wait for few to solve our problems, when on a cultural level we'll never accept them.

It's because they finally hit the point where it started to really hurt people's wallets, so they cut back on driving and started conserving with carpools and such. Suddenly, OPEC notices a drop in sales (which didn't happen until it got about $4 per gallon), so they have to cut the price to increase demand. Then the economy tanked, and demand dropped even further. Gas is below $2 per gallon for the first time in years... enjoy it, because this will probably be the last time in our lives it will be this cheap. In the meantime, don't worry, I'm enjoying it. :D

My family has been investing in the stock market, so at some point, when the DOW goes back up, we'll benefit.
