But, well I'm not sure. I've been dating my girlfriend for 2 years now, and we survided my deployment in Iraq together. I am so close to asking her to marry me, I've even bought the ring and all ... but I... eh... I have nerves. I mean BIG nerves. I love her to death, and I feel like I'm ready, but I just... I don't know where to do it, or what to say. Any advice from some older people here?

He's right, this is nothing to call IT about! ;)

I'm sure just saying anything from your heart will make it a special moment. As for when, make it a romantic evening or even just in the middle of a walk. Maybe during something you guys do together often that is special to the two of you (and also appropriate. . .) For instance, if you guys go to a certain restaurant or watch a movie at home a certain night of every week do it then -- a time that is already special for the two of you and that you will want linked to the memory of your proposal for the rest of your life.

It is a pretty nerve-wracking thing, but once you have it a little bit planed out I'm sure the words will just flow and it will be fantastic.

You could always hold onto the ring and resell it if the price of gold goes up. ;)

But seriously, like Nike says... just do it.

Alright, this is what you do. Take her somewhere nice, put the ring in a piece of cake or whatever and when she bites into it, she'll see the ring and get all mushy. Well that or she'll break her teeth or even possibly die from choking on it. Actually just scratch that, bad idea.
