And this show baffels me. I thought I was going to be seeing a dark and yet quirky mystery series, and sometimes that is what I'm watching, but other times the show is so cheesy and melodramatic, sometimes to hilarious effect, but for the most part very straight faced.

I'm not sure, because I'm not familiar with them, but is this show supposed to be half a soap opera?

Twin Peaks is amazing, it can have some pretty wtf moments, but it just adds to it, I think. It's very Japanese in a way, in it's way that mixes so many genres into one. If you like Twin Peaks you should play Deadly Premonition.

twin peaks really aint that good the mellow-dramatic cheesiness is meant to be "ironic" which is sort of funny for a few episodes but it gets really tiresome. sort of like "wow, youre making fun of 70s tv shows, get over it" i like people to give tv shows time to see if they like it, i say watch 4-5 episodes and if u dont like it give up because u should have a good grasp of wether ull like the rest of the show or not

It's not meant to make fun of 70's tv shows?

It's definitley trying to be satirical. You can tell with all the "Invitation to Love" bits here and there and also the curtain runners bit. The thing is I actually watched the first season of the show. I still can't figure out whether or not I like it.

IMO the cheesiness is what makes it even better. Because it makes it more weird/surreal. On one hand you have this mysterious and serious plot, but it's filled in with all these loony characters. I love it.

I was completely sold on the show after the moment when Cooper recounts his dream to the others trying to solve the mystery. I didn't expect how he concluded the review at all, and I was rolling with laughter.

There are times when it works, but then there are times when James Hurley goes off on his own adventure resulting in the most boring subplot of all time.

I'm told it was groundbreaking in its time, but after watching the first seven or eight episodes, I had enough. Some of the characters were interesting, but the plot lagged.

Actually I think I was just sold on the season two opener when Conner is shot and bleeding out in the ground and he spends a full five minutes making small talk to and giving thumbs up to the old man bringing his room service  It can still get a little too seriously corny here and there, but I think the second season picks up more steam and finds more of a tone :)

It's extremely entertaining. Yes it's sometimes melodramatic or cheesy, but there was never a time when I was bored watching it. The characters are great and the plot is engaging enough.

I loved the series to start with, then it began to lose me towards the middle, much to my dismay. But I stuck with it and was very happy in the end. It's one of my favorite TV series of all time now. Also, I love the cheesiness. :P

My thoughts exactly. The second season really went downhill and I hated the "ending".

Yeah I think Half a soap opera is a perfect description. It can be dark and well written, but it does (on purpose) have brief moments of melodrama and overacting. Personally I think its kind of great and makes it unique.

Psych also made fun of it in one episode which was also pretty hilarious.
