Then why do countries like Malawi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malawi suffer from such poor economies. I just found a link to information about Malawi, and its very interesting to see how horrible a country is, even with democracy? My true question is, how does a country like Malawi, even with very bad physical features, have such a low standard of living? Maybe the true question is are government so involved in peoples lives, or do people make their lives like they are. Its a very wierd thing to think about, but to me its fascinating.

But look at countries in the south, some are well developing. Nigeria is said to become the leader of African countries.

Saying you're a democracy does not make you a democracy. Especially when your country is in Africa.

A landlocked country with no natural resources isn't going to be very wealthy, no matter what form of government is in charge.

It works as a form of governance (well relative to the alternatives), it doesn't guarantee anything beyond that.

I find it funny that the US constantly claims to be a democracy when it's actually suppose to be a Republic. "And to the Republic for which it stands" ring any bells? I know you didn't say anything about the US but still. I personally feel democracy sucks. A true republic is the way to go.

The best [if you want to say it like that] out of an already vastly undeveloped continent.

Democracy should work (on an economical level, basically, since morally this is very arguable), but politicians keep on being untrustworthy in some countries.

It's just like a vicious cycle and it's very difficult to get over it, since there's so much corruption that when someone leaves, the next inherits all that 'bad stuff'.

Ummmmmm.......The US has never claimed to be a Democracy.....Technically we are a Constitutional Federal Republic.....Meaning.....We have a constitutuon, a goverment, and the public officials are elected by the people.

Why? Because there are a lot of stupid people in the world. Stupid people that can vote.

In theory, democracy should be perfect... everyone has a say ~ de arimasu

In theory, socialism/communism should be perfect... everyone has equal rights to everything ~ de arimasu

The problem is the kind of people that do vote (lots of them don't vote and later whine about the results), and the kind of people that govern ~ de arimashou

I do prefer democracy, though ~ de arimasune

On paper virtually every system works. Communism would be great if people were perfect but we sre not. The system has to account for that. Democracy's problem is idiots

It's been pretty much proven that communism doesn't work.
