Okay I got a text today from my best friend saying there is a job opportunity that may become a career in Missouri (we live in Indiana) and he asked me what I would do. On one hand I want the best for all my friends, but on the other hand if the best thing for them means I only get to see them once a year at most the decision becomes much harder.

What would you tell your best friend?

It depends where he's going to live if he gets the job. It probably wouldn't be worth it to commute or if the rent is high

Same here (BFF moved away) We are still best friends. People grow up and have to move...it happens. If you really are great friends, then nothing should change

Would you rather him stay here, with you, and regret not taking the job opportunity for the rest of his life? If it doesn't work out for him in his new digs, then he can always come back.

His choice will be regardles of you opinion. Tell him to take the job, and prove you want the best for him.

If it is a job opportunity then it basically is a clear answer to take the job. But it will most likely be up to him to decide on the outcome this situation.

personally I don't see the issue of wanting your best friend to be around. like I said in an earlier post though I told him more or less to go for it.

But you just said that deep down you don't want that for him :?

IMO that is a sign of either:
a. immaturity (children often see the world only from their POV)
b. selfishness (what can they do for me)
...neither of these make for a very good friend

When you really care for someone, you want what is best for them 'deep down'

Ever since the end of summer 2010, i've lived about 1000 miles away from home, where my family resides. My friends are scattered all over Europe because they've all chosen different places to study and we all figured it'd be difficult to keep touch after we moved out. Soon after we discovered many things at a rapid rate. There's this thing called a computer and the internet. You hook up the computer to the internet and soon enough you'll have access to Skype, Windows Live, Facebook, Twitter...basically every single thing needed for you to communicate from far away - with no delay ;)

Take it, 20 years ago would mean you wouldnt see him for years.

But we have internets now, you can talk to him everyday.
