And now its not working, I took it into my local computer shop and they were unable to retrieve the data with software. I later foud out that the Hard drive has a rip in it interally, is there anyway to recover the data evan though its phyically damaged? Ive only backed up 1 TB out of the 2 (the HD is full by the way) and I don't want to loose that 1TB of data that contains family photos etc.

Please help

I did post this at computer hardware but they seem to be asleep :P

I think it's dead.

Oh and you should had posted this in the PC hardware discussion forum, even if it seems empty.

Why did you even let him touch that HDD? Those things are expensive.

I did post it there, but getting OTs opinion can't hurt.

I know Seagate has a data recovery service that can get hard to recover files but I also know it can sometimes cost up to $1000 so you have to ask yourself what your data is worth to you.

I think you're **** out of luck. :( This is why I always prefer to have smaller capacity hard drives, for example two 500 GB hard drives as opposed to one 1 TB hard drive (especially if they're portable), because at least if one of them fails you don't lose ALL of your data.

You're **** outta luck. Data recovery is possible, but it's very expensive.

There are professional data recovery companies. That's probably your best option with a physically damaged drive. It would probably cost you a pretty penny though.

Send the hdd to data recovery services, it's kinda expensive but not as expensive as the data itself.

Have a really good search online for faults associated with your HDD drive model. I picked up a 500gb drive cheap about a year back and when it broke down, I found a lot of people had been having the same problem. Seagate recovered my data and replaced the drive free of charge and covering all the international courier costs themselves. It might be a long shot but it's got to be worth checking.
