Alright so it's the end of the year. Finals have ended, summer is here, etc. I go to my Spanish teacher and ask him politely if he could change my grade from an 89.3% (which counts as a B) to an 89.5 which constitutes as an A. Guess what his response is? "Go home. I don't care. Get out of here." he told me that MULTIPLE times. You may think that he was being reasonable since teachers can't just round up just because a student asks them to do it, but here's the deal. I told him to change my participation score constantly throughout the semester since he gave me a horrible grade for it and it's worth 40% of my grade. He said that he made a mistake and will change it but of course, he did not. It's his fault that i could not get the 89.5.

I'm not too angry about the fact that he did not change my grade. What I am angry about is his attitude towards a student who had a sincere grade request. He could've politely told me that he couldn't and grades were final. It's not like I would keep pestering him about it or something. Instead, he basically told me to gtfo out of his classroom.

Anyone have a story in which there teacher was a total ***** to them?

Did you bring up the fact that he said he would change the participation grade when you visited him?

Teachers are human too. I'm not saying what they did was right, but sometimes we make the same mistakes as the rest of the population.

I frequently deal with students (even classes) who are barely human in their approach to other people, and are just trying to provoke a reaction. That's not your story, but just remember you are one amongst hundreds...not all of whom want an A or even care about any grade at all (depressingly).

Most teachers have the power to be total buttmunches... Sadly many flaunt that power, and there isn't much that can be done by the victims.

Change your grade? So you go into their office or after class and want your grade increased? That doesn't seem fair.

Doesn't matter it is .000009 percent. You're still asking for your grade to be increased for no reason.

I had a teacher who threw a kid out of class and called his mom (in 9th grade, so we were all 14-15) because he said penis In proper context too, he didn't just yell PENIS or anything. His mom is pretty cool though so she probably laughed in the teacher's face. I know I would have. That was how the teacher was all the time though, she flipped out for no reason.

Yeah I got a story where a teacher was a douche.

So I was asked to stay after class to complete an assignment that I hadn't done. I was failing and really needed to do it so I stayed. I'm there for forty-five minutes to an hour, as it was a big assignment, and I finally get it done. So what do I do? I turn it in to him of course. Right to his hands. A few days later I notice that the assignment is STILL counted as missing even though I gave it to him personally. I confront him and ask him about it. He avoids eye contact and doesn't say a word. So yeah, he threw my assignment away. I remember looking through the dumpster outside but it was too late.

It wasn't just that either. You see, he was also the PE teacher. There was this ridiculous test you had to do that was like twenty push-ups and fifty sit-ups in one minute. Usually they take whatever time you end up taking it in and that's the end of it. I remember doing the test every day for two weeks while everyone else was done.

The stuff doesn't bother me though. I don't dwell on it, but that is my story of a teacher being a ****. Sorry if it's long.

Not trying to be harsh, but a lot of times teachers do not have the time to care about one student. Usually you have to build credibility with a teacher to even atleast get that extra .5%. I know plenty of teachers though who would've said "You had plenty of time this semester, Timmy, quit wasting your time and get out" Just something that high school teachers deal with all the time, and someone thing they won't deal with all the time.

Apparently the teacher made a mistake while grading him despite the TC continuously bringing his attention to it. I don't see why folks like Wasdie are deeming it unfair.

I suppose, depending on the amount of students that teacher has to deal with. I was always pretty quiet and not much of a fuss, so teachers wouldn't usually mind putting in a little bit extra. Then again, TCs teacher sounds like he has a lot on his plate.

That's why I never whined to teachers in high school and college over a grade or anything. Not only do I find it a great embarrassment for the student, I also thought it was some kind of an insult to the teacher, like a way of saying "hey man, I don't really give a flying **** about your class even though I pretend I do, I just want you to give me a passing grade and screw you". Dunno if that's how it is indeed, that's the way in which I perceive this.

Violent teachers are always the best ones IMO. I don't know if you had those weird spiky walled temporary classrooms. But We had a teacher who actually kicked a hole straight through the wall, you could see outside

I was called up to my math teachers desk once and was asked to step outside. Once outside she told me that she was going to suggest I take the class again, because my grades were not "satisfactory". I literally laughed in her face, since it was the end of the year, bcause I had an 85% in the class and had earned an A the previous semester. She called my mom because of my reaction, and my mom proceeded to laugh at her through the phone (if only they had been in person, it would have been so much worse with my mother). Needless to say, I went on to many years of A's and B's in math classes through the rest of high school, never once retaking a class or getting a C.

You obviously did not read my entire post. He incorrectly graded one of my assignments which was worth 40% of m grade. He told me that he would change it. Despite the numerous times that I confronted him about it, he failed to change it thus ending up in me getting a B in the class when in actuality, I deserve more.

I always tell my students the grade you earn is the grade you earn. Not my fault if you are 1 point away from a letter grade.

I understand your problem is a bit different though, TC, so I'd perhaps explain it to him again or go to an administrator.

I had a management professor last semester who said at the beginning of the semester that he will NOT raise grades at all. So if you get an 89.3, you get an 89.3. Other people on "rate my professor.com" said that he refused to raise their grades.

I worked out that I needed a 105 on my final exam to get an A. I had a high B before the final exam, but no matter what, I couldn't get an A. I studied hard for it anyway and ended up getting a 96 on the final. My final grade should have been like an 89, but for some reason he gave me an A. Must have liked me I guess.

But that guy screwed you out of .2 points... what an a-hole move.

Did you have any evidence to back up your request for either a higher final or participation grade?

I teach mathematics at the college I'm doing my Master's at and I wouldn't raise a student's grade just on their request without something to back it up. If a student comes to me and shows me that I marked something wrong on their test when it was right, or they show it to me and maybe I graded it too harshly, then I'll gladly change their score.

Also, I'm not trying to be harsh, but if you're going to go to college, you'll find that college professors will be harder than high school teachers. You'll find alot less in the way of things like extra credit and your grade will sometimes be based only on the tests (i.e. many professors will not collect homework).

Sad to hear that; I'm assuming this is high school so I find it surprising that teachers aren't willing to at least discuss adjustments.

On the other hand, if this was University I would not be surprised at all at that response from an educator. Some professors are absolute jerks and think of themselves as smugly superior to students.

I do fairly well in school. This year I had a 99 in the first quarter in my Chemistry class. At the end of the quarter we had a paper due and the teacher accused me of cheating and gave me a 0. I didn't cheat but I saw the similarities as my classmate had used the same source for the same topic. That 0 took me from near perfect to a low A. I accepted it as I knew it looked like I cheated and there wasn't anything to complain about.

End of second quarter I had another high A, 98 or so. Our midterm is to make an in depth slideshow about the pros and cons of Nuclear energy. She asks us to use google docs. I send it to her the day its due on google docs. She tells me a WEEK later that she couldn't download the document. I go home and re-send it and she takes of 80 points for the 8 days it was late. Regardless of the fact that she neglected to tell me that she didn't have it, and when she did I immediately sent it to her within five minutes of being home from school.

This 20 brought my semester grade, (which should have been a 99 or 98), down to an 87 or so. Kept me off of high honors. She was totally stubborn about it and wouldn't budge until I explained the situation to my parents and they called the school. She then said she'd change it to an 80, which I was fine with.

Here's the kicker, today was our last day of school; she is so lazy that she had nearly five months to do this, and she didn't fill out the paperwork to have the grade changed after the grades closed. The paperwork consists of her writing the assignment, the grade given, the grade now received, and signing her name. I went to her at least a dozen times and she always said she would do it but never did.

He was right in telling you that, you did not earn the grade so why should he give it to you?

Try asking him again on a different day. Maybe he was just in a pissy mood.
