The decade is about to end, a very awkward decade in music I will say, there was some good but a lot of bad. New trends, new ways to play, new insight on what is good but I suppose you can't dwell in nostalgia forever.... Lots have changed... With that said, whats your opinion on the top 10 best albums from 2000-2009? Here's what I think. I wouldn't mind getting insight on my thoughts either. :P

10) Portishead-Third (released 2008 )

9) SilverSun Pickups- Carnavas (Released 2006)

8 )The Strokes-Is This It 2001

7)Interpol-Turn on the Bright Lights (released 2001)

6) Modest Mouse-The Moon & Antarctica (released 2000)

5) Radiohead- In Rainbows (released 2007)

4) Arcade Fire-Funeral (released 2005)

3)Mars Volta- De-Loused in the Comatorium (released 2003)

2)Sigur Ros-Agaetis (released 1999/2000)

1) Bjork-Vespertine (released 2001)

Your thoughts? What is your list? Agreed/disagree?

Kid A is incredibly overrated imo. It honestly makes people (including Radiohead fans) over look almost everything else. In Rainbows is probably Radioheads best album ever. The musicianship and atmosphere thats put into that album is honestly mind blowing. Its so very well constructed and sucks you into their dark world. Great album indeed.

Yeah! It's good to see The Strokes up there! Imo, Is This It revitalized the rock scene in the 2000s at a time when Nickelback was "rock".

In no particular order:

Take Off Your Pants and Jacket - blink 182

Homesick - A Day to Remember

Saosin - Saosin

An Ocean Between Us - As I Lay Dying

With Roots Above and Branches Below - The Devil Wears Prada

Saints - Destroy the Runner

I-Empire - Angels & Airwaves

Messengers - August Burns Red

The Fall of Ideals - All That Remains

And though technically it's a greatest hits compiliation, Third Eye Blind: A Collection - Third Eye Blind

Disagree completely. Kid A is much more original, unique, atmospheric, and emotional. In Rainbows felt like something Radiohead put out just because their fans wanted another album. It's good, but Kid A is better.

Well Nickleback came out at the same time, but had something different going on (which still sucked :P) But yes, It was the Strokes and Interpol who began the post punk revival. Then we got flooded with bands imitating them like, Jet, The Vines, The Hives, Franz Ferdinan...ect. Though we got The Yeah, Yeah, Yeah's who are great.

And to call In Rainbows a rushed "here you go" album is very disappointing. If anything, its light years ahead of anything they have ever done.

This decade sucked in music. I wish I could have experienced the 70's or 80's, nothing compares to those days. Still I did like Velvet Revolvers 2 CD's, Chinese Democracy and the Foo Fighters stuff. That is about it.

Great list, TV on the Radio, and White Stripes are good adds. And it was a close one with Animal Collective. Almost had them instead of Portishead. :P

I'm not one to really suck up all of Radiohead's releases. In fact Kid A is so hit-or-miss, must-be-in-the-right-mood in order for me to get the feeling I do from it. I don't neccessarily feel In Rainbows is rushed, but it just feels like an unspecial progression. It's logical enough, just not that stand out.

I can say that this would end up on my list, possibly in the top five. I've been listening to this thing constantly over the past month.

Hell, my top ten albums of the decade would be pretty close to my top ten favorite albums..

Ok, now your making sense. I see were your coming from after you explained yourself. Firstly, I feel the exact same way about Kid A. It really is a hit or miss for me as well, I have to be in the mood to listen to it.

As for In Rainbows, I can easily see how someone might think it might not stand out. The album isn't instant sugar like The Bends was, it does take dedication. Its one of those albums that when you listen to it more than a few times to finally reach a revelation of , "O I understand what their doing now"

I have looked at some newer bands and stuff but I just can't get into it. I like the old sound of bands like Van Halen, Guns N Roses or Led Zeppelin and I can't seem to get into today's music. Maybe the next decade will bring that style back.

I'm only going to do a top 5 because, in all reality, I'm listening to so much new music all the time, and constantly discovering new stuff I can't really say for sure how I feel about a top 10( and I'm lacking many many albums)

In no order:

(Colors and Alaska are really tied for me, though)

In no particular order...

-Figure 8 by Elliott Smith (2000)
-Hail to the Thief by Radiohead (2003)
-Journal for Plague Lovers by Manic Street Preachers (2009)
-From a Basement on a Hill by Elliott Smith (2004)
-St. Elsewhere by Gnarls Barkley (2006)
-Swagger by Flogging Molly (2000)

That's all I can think of... To be honest I mostly listen to oldies/clas.sic rock, clas.sical, and some '90s rock.

I'm only going to do a top 5 because, in all reality, I'm listening to so much new music all the time, and constantly discovering new stuff I can't really say for sure how I feel about a top 10( and I'm lacking many many albums)

In no order:

(Colors and Alaska are really tied for me, though)

DivergeUnify

Interesting choices, I thought you would have at least one AFI album :P

Okay I got it :D. No particular order cause that'll be more hard work :x.

Paul Mccartney-Chaos and Creation in the Backyard

George Harrison-Brainwashed(RIP)

Radiohead-Kid A

Muse-Origin of Symmetry

Jay-Z-The Blueprint

John Mayer-Room for Squares(That album was my childhood)

System of a Down-Toxicity

Interpol-Turn on the Bright Lights

Blu & Exile-Below the heavens

Beck-Sea Changes.

There we go :D

Proobie44

I was going to throw some rap on my list too, but for me, when it came down to it. I just wen't with Trip-hop instead. I forgot about Toxicity, the only album of SoaD i can stand. :P

Well I tried to objectively pick my list as best i could. If I were to expand the list to 10, I'd probably have Art of Drowning, and Sing the Sorrow

I know you're not one for extreme music though, so you probably didn't like my list much :P

Art of Drowning is an LP :P... unless you specifically were referring to the EP that only has like one original song? :P

I'd love it a lot more if the production didn't suck so much. That damn hiss in the background is so annoying

... the hell?

In Rainbows, but not Kid A?

mexicangordo

Kid A is incredibly overrated imo. It honestly makes people (including Radiohead fans) over look almost everything else. In Rainbows is probably Radioheads best album ever. The musicianship and atmosphere thats put into that album is honestly mind blowing. Its so very well constructed and sucks you into their dark world. Great album indeed.

Reckoner is the only song I could say that really did that for me. A few other songs were nice, but that song was memorable (and popular, but rightly so).
