It was a good speech. The kids were probably bored and texting their friends through it, though.

Yeah, if its one thing Obama isn't "hip" on, its knowing that plenty of the kids could care less.

Pretty much. If Bush had given this kind of speech while I was in high school (or middle school), I probably would have just done math homework.

It seems to me that that was kind of the idea - if every single kid was fully engaged then the speech would have kind of been pointless. :P

If you'd spend the time doing homework instead of goofing off you probably don't need the speech.

Indeed, my comment could extend the same, I was just referencing who was president when I was in middle/high school.

Lucky, those classes were terrible, except for world religion which was awesome. Our school required us to do a project at the end of each semester of religion where we had to chose different assignments and write reflections on our spiritual response to them. Worst project ever.

Good speech. I wish past presidents did the same. hopefully it becomes a tradition to encourage students to do their best.

And yes, millions were indoctrinated. he mentioned the country. Which is the USA. And we all know the USA is a socialist dictatorship run by Obama. So he basically said "Follow your leader as we kill grandparents across the nation. The blood of the non-believers will run through the streets. All republicans are vampires, drive a stake through their hearts, bring their corpses to the town square and we shall purge their kind from existence!!"

I'm paraphrasing of course... but its all there between the lines. :P

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iqsxCWjCvI For anyone that missed it. I thought it was kind of dumb how some schools forced their students to watch it, but I didn't have a problem with the speech itself.

Yeah, if its one thing Obama isn't "hip" on, its knowing that plenty of the kids could care less.

Luckily, there are also plenty that care a lot. My local news tonight highlighted a bunch of kids who boycotted because their school did not show the speech. They said "if our President has something to say to us, and someone decides we can't hear it, then that is censorship and we aren't standing for it."

Made my heart feel warm and fuzzy. Future rebels. Gotta love 'em.

Also, this makes the nut jobs who were afraid of Obama speaking seems crazier than usual. All they were REALLY afraid of was Obama strengthing ties with the young voter demographic and wanted to stop it. What they didn't realize is that by making such a fuss, they are pushing that same demographic to the opposing party anyway.

First said, I am a social conservative and an economic moderate, I consider myself an Independent. I vote for the R most of the time, as they are the lesser of 2 evils on the ballots in my state, but I do vote D when they support my values and are the lesser of the 2 evils. Nothing wrong with a president addressing the kids, 1st Bush and Reagan Maximus did. Especially the African American community should use his success as a role model, rather than the rap community. He came from a nothing background to attain the highest position in American government. I agree with his credit card, salary and bonus regulating of bank bail out money, and such. He is seems to be a likable person, other than his stupid statement with the police officer and professor thing. But his liberal, socialist, left wing progressive ideals, will keep me away from him. These reasons are why the independents, and republicans were nervous about him attempting to "indoctrinate" children. That said, it was over hyped, and unfortunately at a bad time. The healthcare debate is going against the Dems, and Obama's popularity is below 45%. Best to focus on his Czars (which are mostly extreme left zealots) and ties to Acron.

Name me one bona fide independent (i.e., not a conservative radical who happens to be registered as an independent) who was claiming that Obama was going to indoctrinate children.

There was literally no reason whatsoever to believe such a thing was going to happen, and I'm going to wager most of those claiming as such knew that very well but went on with their claims all the same because they had nothing to lose. Everyone was going to gain from Obama giving that speech except for his political opponents.
