It was a good speech. The kids were probably bored and texting their friends through it, though._en1gma_Yeah, if its one thing Obama isn't "hip" on, its knowing that plenty of the kids could care less.

Pretty much. If Bush had given this kind of speech while I was in high school (or middle school), I probably would have just done math homework.

It seems to me that that was kind of the idea - if every single kid was fully engaged then the speech would have kind of been pointless. :P

I, personally, was too busy picking my nose and working on my coloring book[QUOTE="chessmaster1989"][QUOTE="Oblivionfan10"] Yeah, if its one thing Obama isn't "hip" on, its knowing that plenty of the kids could care less.Oblivionfan10

I'm pretty sure most of us would place math homework on a higher pedestal. :PIf you'd spend the time doing homework instead of goofing off you probably don't need the speech.Pretty much. I did homework during some classes and preps during senior year of high school so that I could screw around/play video games when I got home... >_>
Luckily, I was in Religion class at the time... no jokeOblivionfan10
Eww... religion class... glad I never had to take anything like that. >_>
I did homework during class because it was due that day and I had spent the night before posting on GS. >_>I did homework during some classes and preps during senior year of high school so that I could screw around/play video games when I got home... >_>

Not that bad.. really. Plus, going to a Catholic high school... only 39 kids in my sophomore classLucky, those classes were terrible, except for world religion which was awesome. Our school required us to do a project at the end of each semester of religion where we had to chose different assignments and write reflections on our spiritual response to them. Worst project ever.Eww... religion class... glad I never had to take anything like that. >_>

Our school required us to do a project at the end of each semester of religion where we had to chose different assignments and write reflections on our spiritual response to them. Worst project ever. I went through a spiritual phase for about 2 days. I try every once in awhile to get into I just can't.. Back on topic.. I thought was a pretty good speech... bown out of proportion... yesOh that speech all those parents made a fuss about lol. It was alright, he pretty much said was pretty much common sense.Hit those books instead of slacking off in class to make something of your self.
Good speech. I wish past presidents did the same. hopefully it becomes a tradition to encourage students to do their best.
And yes, millions were indoctrinated. he mentioned the country. Which is the USA. And we all know the USA is a socialist dictatorship run by Obama. So he basically said "Follow your leader as we kill grandparents across the nation. The blood of the non-believers will run through the streets. All republicans are vampires, drive a stake through their hearts, bring their corpses to the town square and we shall purge their kind from existence!!"
I'm paraphrasing of course... but its all there between the lines. :P

Luckily, there are also plenty that care a lot. My local news tonight highlighted a bunch of kids who boycotted because their school did not show the speech. They said "if our President has something to say to us, and someone decides we can't hear it, then that is censorship and we aren't standing for it."
Made my heart feel warm and fuzzy. Future rebels. Gotta love 'em.
Also, this makes the nut jobs who were afraid of Obama speaking seems crazier than usual. All they were REALLY afraid of was Obama strengthing ties with the young voter demographic and wanted to stop it. What they didn't realize is that by making such a fuss, they are pushing that same demographic to the opposing party anyway.
These reasons are why the independents, and republicans were nervous about him attempting to "indoctrinate" children.Bladescorpion
Name me one bona fide independent (i.e., not a conservative radical who happens to be registered as an independent) who was claiming that Obama was going to indoctrinate children.
There was literally no reason whatsoever to believe such a thing was going to happen, and I'm going to wager most of those claiming as such knew that very well but went on with their claims all the same because they had nothing to lose. Everyone was going to gain from Obama giving that speech except for his political opponents.
