...And now I just want to know: What's the best tour you can do? We're thinking about doing route 66, but I just want to know if there's something better.

Go to Six Flags Magic Mountain. Best theme park you'll ever go. Not to mention it might be closing down. Go while you still have the chance.

It depends on where you are from and what you’re looking for. The U.S. is a big place, there is a ton to see and do, many suggestions might be good ones but not necessarily for you.

If you want to see the "hugeness" of the nation, take a trip to Arizona and Utah, traveling around the numerous National Parks there. Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Zion... even the land surrounding them is pretty spectacular. It's great if you're into photography, wildlife, or just sightseeing.

America is a big place with a lot of different people and no unified culture. I wouldn’t say there’s a particularly real America out there. If you’re looking for big things then the Grand Canyon shouldn’t be missed. It’s big. Really big. In my experience many people visiting the U.S. enjoy places like that.

OT: It was Zelda for the Wii. The sig isn't making any particular statement. It is just my interpretation of the reaction to that review.

I'm English, and I remember going on a holiday to America which followed this kind of idea. We started in Houston and drove across to San Francisco, stopping off at places like Grand Canyon and Zion on the way, as well as some big cities, such as Las Vegas, spending one or two nights in each place. It was the most amazing holiday I've ever been on.

I don't know anything about Route 66, but I would recommend designing your own route, which goes to places you're interested in, rather than following one road for the sake of it.

going to one place would be a waste of time, especially socal. i love it, but it isnt really too indicative of america as a country. the rt 66 idea is actually really good. if you have the time, maybe down 95 a bit to 66, then over, and up the west coast.

Yellowstone for sure. as well as all the other places mentioned.  You also need to stop off at the Rockies and snap a few shots off with the camera.  Hershey Pennnsylvania is also a good place to go. As well a see a Gettysburg re-enactment I know they have those in Pennsylvania and probably elsewhere to.  And if you have time Crater Lake and see if you can spot the large piece of pumass floating in the lake.

It is interesting that the Grand Canyon is mentioned as often as it is in this thread.  For all we have in the United States when someone visits most of us still direct people as such.  Dude check out this huge hole in the ground!

That would be the best thing to do as a tourist. You could drive around Kansas for three days and see nothing but grain fields .It's the "real" America, but pretty dull to view. Manhattan, NYC by taxi would be great, but only on weeks when there's no plane crashes scheduled.........same with DC. The Smithsonian Institute in DC is one of the most spectacular museums you could possibly visit. You could spend 3-4 days there alone. It's massive.
