I tried redbox for the first time recently and I came to the realization that they take off any extras on the dvds. As a person who loves dvd extras (director's commentary in particular) I was very disappointed because I wanted to hear what the director's thoughts were about Scott Pilgrim. I googled this and couldn't find anything on this. Why does nobody talk about the lack of extras's?

Anyways do you like redbox or not?

I personally don't use it. However, most of the time I'm near one an attractive girl is renting a movie from it. So I approve of that...

If I didn't have Netflix I'd probably use it. I heard it has games now, which is something I'd be interested in. Check it out for $1 and see if I want to buy it.

Never been to Canada. They are in the entryway to every Walmart and Giant Eagle I have been at and some gas stations like Sheetz has the blockbuster ones.

Wasn't the taking of extras some sort of deal with certain companies or something?

Also I was uner the impression netflix largely does the same. That studios release "rental" versions of dvd's these days.

Either way I prefer it to any other method of renting.

Most DVD's these days don't have special features anymore; they put them all on the blurays.

I don't think they "take off" the extras, they simply don't offer editions of movies that include extras.

well the options for the extras are there, but when you click them they don't play.

Interesting, I've never encountered that.

Same. That sounds more like the disc being scratched and unable to load the extra. If the extra wasn't on the disc, the menu wouldn't list them. Which is what I've encountered.

I could totally see myself using it if I didn't watch like a movie every other day, but since I do, Netflix is the only movie service for me.

How, then, did you come to the conclusion that they do so?

mainly because it just happened to me today. It's only a buck to rent and I figure redbox has some deal to do so with such low prices. Maybe I'm wrong though perhaps this is more widespread than just redbox.

I have yet to try it. I hear Red Box is starting to take away a lot of Blockbusters profits though, so it must be decent. I will probably give it a shot sometime soon.

i usually dont watch extras... if i like a movie that much i usually just buy it.

redbox is pretty awesome though. I reduced my netflix subscriptions from 3 dvds out to 1 dvd out due to redbox (really the only reason i still have netflix is for the watch instantly). They have alot more new releases... no more waiting 6 months for netflix to finally send me a new release.

and at $1 a movie.... its just awesome. Netflix i usually only use for older and more obscure movies these days.

Disagree, it's less commitment. Anyway, I kind of like it, but I will only really like it once it lets you rent Video Games, which I've heard they are starting to do.

I don't use Redbox, instead I use Netflix. Some of my friends do, and they like it. It would be wise of Netflix to put up machines like Redbox did, but I guess that's not the place to discuss it.

It used to be ok but now they have game, blueray and that makes it good. For just 1 dollar its a good deal. But we need still Blockbuster or some video store to rent older movies and games.

Personally I don't like it. No tv shows, and only recently released movies. Not only that but I have to drive to the store to rent, and then drive back to return it.

for $10 netflix I get movies delivered to my door (I only manage 7 or 8 a month on the 1disc plan), and unlimited streaming (practically worth $10 alone).

I can see how it would work well for people that normally rent on weekends from blockbuster though.

Redbox has been battling movie companies to get the movie released to them so they can rent them out. The companies see the low price of a buck and don't see much profit from a dollar much like how Apple is having to battle ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX with their 99¢ show rentals. It's all a money game and if the companies don't come to a agreement then they don't get it.

So if that means Redbox gets rental copies of disks that have limited features then that is the deal they got from the studio so they can rent them to the public. To me these services are going to be where its at. We already have seen Blockbusters pretty much fold and most of the other rental stores are also going out and turning to the low cost method of content delievery whether its online, Netfilx or Redbox.

Sooner or later these services are going to be creeping pretty deep on Cable and Satellite providers which they kind of have already.

Redbox is awesome, its at every grocery store in my town. Its way better than waiting for movies through the mail and way cheaper than Blockbuster. The only problem with it is it is way too slow if there is a line. It should be common practice to browse through the paper menu or online menu before you occupy the box.

I think it's awesome. And I bet Blockbuster is scared. Who needs to rent a movie for an entire week, and pay $6 or $7 bucks. $1 for 1 night is all I need. If I like the movie and want to hear the commentary, I'll buy it.

I have a lot of respect for Redbox's idea. What better way to compete with brick and mortar stores AND netflix? If you don't want to subscribe to an internet site and hate traditional rental places for other reasons, you can just go to a vending machine and bring the movie back when you want at $1 a day. Sounds good to me. I don't personally use it but I would if I was that interested in movies. Most of them are just terrible so I don't bother.
