Just like the title says. Soccer is about as much of a sport as NASCAR or baseball

Soccer is just something to keep second rate athletes busy, if you can even call them that. And don't tell me it's the most popular sport in the world, because soccer is a poor man's game. Anyone can play a game with just a ball as a prerequisite. Soccer is so damn boring to watch and play its not even funny. The damn soccer announcers are like tea kettles, waiting for thirty minutes for a score just so they can yell "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLL"

There is no strategy to this game, run, run, pass, run, run, try to shoot, miss, wash rinse repeat. I could have more fun painting a wall and watching it dry. Also, the players are pansies, jesus that guy tapped my foot let me fall down and whine like a little kid so I can get a yellow card on him.

The only thing soccer is good for is it gets kids to understand there place in athletics at a young age, Anyone can play soccer and be good at it, it takes no real skill. That's just my rant on boring ass game.

Nowhere in this post do I pass these off as fact just my opinion, I'm not forcing you to agree with me

Even though I hate soccer and find it very boring I think it qualifies as a sport.

I'm not a big fan of soccer (playing or watching) but it's still a sport... If golf and bowling are sports, then soccer definitely is. >_>

Pansies, eh? Hardly. A week or two ago i saw someone get their head stapled on the field so they could keep playing. Another person in the same game got stitched up right on the field. They suffer some awful injuries, with no padding except on the shins.

And you could say the same formula applies to any sport. Run, pass, pass, run, pass.

Plus, just because some people dive when they get tapped doesn't mean that it gets called, and it certainly doesn't mean that every soccer player dives.

It's a sport. Deal with it.

Soccer is the most popular sport in the world, all you need is a ball and kick it around and you're playing soccer already...Its a sport, whether you like it or not....Bevause you physically moved alot....You run, kick, stretch, slide, shout, get hurt in the field...Its a sport pal, very obvious...

I find American football boring... Way too much stoppage in the game, and I feel like I'm watching more commercials than an actual game...

Did anyone else just stop reading this babble after this line? You know what? I don't like HALO, so it's not a video game. TC: just because you personally don't like something doesn't mean it's not a sport.

But I will agree if anyone says batman's not a superhero, he's just a hero =P

1st of all, thats the reason why its the most popular sport in the world because it is a poor mans sport, anybody can play it from 3rd world countires to englands youth levels,

2nd yes and I understand that it can be boring to watch, i hated watching as a kid but holy crap i dont get a f-ing kick out of watching baseball and football, the only interesting sport in america for me is basketball but that can also qualify as international but alot of countries suck at it

3rd announcers can goofy and **** and they do their job announcing waiting for plays to develop they dont sit there silent and wait for goals, they commentate on almost everything plus the only place where i hear gooooooooooooool is la liga and southern american leagues, i've never hear tommy smyth, andy gray or martin taylor lose their cool like that but they do get excited and also they beat fukin madden any day

4th strategy, wtf this statement almost makes no sense, you wwouldnt get anywhere without strategy

5th, this is the only thing i agree on, it is good for young kids and to start their athletic career but it can go much further aswell

and this is my rant on your rant

I honestly just think its a game, I think its in the world of athletics but it has nowhere near the type of athletes seen in football, I'm not discarding it as something that shouldn't be played, I just feel that its not on the same levels as the sports I like. So there you have it, you can keep trying to persuade me it is, tell me I'm ignorant, but it's not in the same level as other sports for me.

hemm let's see, what's a sport?

A sport is an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature.... Sounds like soccer fits that description.

Like "The Arena," and instead of guys running around with a football, it would be one man running around with an axe surrounded by lions and tigers.

I honestly just think its a game, I think its in the world of athletics but it has nowhere near the type of athletes seen in football, I'm not discarding it as something that shouldn't be played, I just feel that its not on the same levels as the sports I like. So there you have it, you can keep trying to persuade me it is, tell me I'm ignorant, but it's not in the same level as other sports for me.mfrank0607
But how? Because you don't have ridiculous amounts of padding? Because there are stoppages every few seconds like in other sports named football? Two halves of 45 minutes (no time stoppages), plus additional time, and each team has three substitutions.

Personally, the fact that it's played all over the world by billions of people just brings it above all the other sports that don't carry such a following. Maybe it's popular because it's so simple, but if it was brutally boring to play, it wouldn't be played by billions.

The padding is used so people don't die like they did in the early years of football, I've never seen a game that had stoppages every few seconds.

And I personally think countries can't afford to start new franchises, or when they do they get crushed because of lack of support, because apparently futbol fans can't like any other sports.

Yea football (soccer) is about the only sport that has a world tournament, the FIFA World Cup which brings together about every nation in the world take for instance:

USA vs. Barbados

I had no idea that such a country existed until I saw this game.

I didn't know that you could get an internet connection from under the bridge. Much less operate it with a head-filled buttocks.

On topic though, soccer is the world's most played sport, and there's so much more to it than you think.

Never seen a game that has a stoppage every few second? Watch any NFL game.

And i like soccer, but i also like baseball, football, and hockey. That may be a result of being a Canadian though, i don't think that Europeans have as many options for different major sports like we North Americans do.

Actually, they did give American football a try in Europe, but it folded...

Sweden for example is a big hockey nation (Considering it's geography), but also has a big soccer following...

In a lot of the Balkan countries (Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, etc.),soccer is the absolute number one sport, but love basketball and tennis also.

So, saying us 'futbol' fans can't like any other sports? Yeah right...

And I personally think countries can't afford to start new franchises, or when they do they get crushed because of lack of support, because apparently futbol fans can't like any other sports.

how is padding on your chest supposed to help you survive?

i see helmets as necessity, but not chestpads nd leg pads

[QUOTE="mfrank0607"]I honestly just think its a game, I think its in the world of athletics but it has nowhere near the type of athletes seen in football, I'm not discarding it as something that shouldn't be played, I just feel that its not on the same levels as the sports I like. So there you have it, you can keep trying to persuade me it is, tell me I'm ignorant, but it's not in the same level as other sports for me.gameeer1

But how? Because you don't have ridiculous amounts of padding? Because there are stoppages every few seconds like in other sports named football? Two halves of 45 minutes, plus additional time, and each team has three substitutions.

I know they gave it a try in Europe, but there was a little success when the Giants played the Dolphins in Wembley Stadium (sp?)

My last remark was intended to be sarcastic, but whatever

I'm not a very big soccer fan, but even I disagree with you saying its not a sport.

Some players take some really hard hits to the midsection, so chest protection is definitely necessary. I just don't think that it's fair (for the TC) to say that soccer players aren't equal athletes when compared to football players.

Ok, in the old days of professional football, people would get basically chokeslammed by opposing players, this would cause severe injuries.

and leg pads have to be there due to the fact that franchises are trying their best to protect multi-million dollar investments

Well we can tell that SOMEONE isn't an athlete, because you have to be in excellent shape to play soccer. If your saying soccer is like Nascar you deserve to be crucified becaues all they do in nascar is hold their right foot down and turn their hands left. In soccer they run, jump, kick, and pretty much do everything opposite of a Nascar driver.

Just like the title says. Soccer is about as much of a sport as NASCAR or baseball

RiSkyBiZ-13

Did anyone else just stop reading this babble after this line? You know what? I don't like HALO, so it's not a video game. TC: just because you personally don't like something doesn't mean it's not a sport.

But I will agree if anyone says batman's not a superhero, he's just a hero =P

Yep.

Opinions stated as fact are painful. So I didn't read beyond that either.

They aren't equal at all, football players are stronger, faster, and all around better athletes, the only thing soccer players have is conditiong, but that is due to two totally different styles of play

the TC's statement is blatant flame-bait :?
