My doctor thinks I have it, and so do I. I don'treally feel comfortable eating in front of others. Usually I don't feel hungry in that situation. I'm also not the type of person to walk up to someone and start having a conversation. It's not that I don't want to be social, it's just that my mind won't let me.

Yeah, I'm a also that person you can't just walk up to and have a conversation with. Kinda makes me angry, because when someone is talking to me, I say barely anything back like "Ohh yeah...ok". Then after the convo is done, I always have something I should've said or something. I also get nervous when there's a lot of people around in a room (say like a classroom), and when everyone starts talking at once and loudly, I get really agitated ad anxious for some reason.

Funny though, because I'm into acting, and like being on stage...

Yes. You see, getting accustomed to talking without being seen actually pulls you away from reality. You will feel the need of being heard without drawing any attention...and that would be impossible.

I have general and social anxiety. I'm also prone to bounds of depression.

One in every three people will suffer from some sort of anxiety during there life, so there's probably a lot more people on here that do.

Ok I found out what I was talking about. SAD also stands for Seasonal Affective Disorder, or when your moods are affected by the seasons. I just had the wrong SAD :?

Bah, psychiatrists just love to tell people they have disorders. If you're sad, then you have a depression, and need pills. You don't like talking to people? Clearly you have a disorder too.

We all panic, it is part of human nature. Fear is our nature. Simply because you are fearful in certain situations doesn't make you mentally ill.

I have Social Anxiety Disorder. It got to a point where I could hardly say anything besides "yes" or "no" to people I didn't know well. The fear of being judged by others was too much to handle. I have been getting treatment since October, and I've made a lot of progress. I'm still generally anxious in new social situations, but once you face your fears, you start to realize how foolish they actually are. I was able to overcome Social Anxiety Disorder(although I still have ways to go), and I'm sure anyone else can.

Itcan help but only if the person is serious about the process and wants to be helped, otherwise it doesn't work.

Sorry but mental disorders exist. It really sucks how ignorant people are to ignore that fact. A family member of mine has severe obsessive-compulsive disorder and you'd be surprised how much it can disable someone. What about bipolar disorder? Bipolar people who get in such deep depression that they feel the need to commit suicide is not a problem?

And as for Social Anxiety Disorder, it's not "not liking to talk to people"...people like me with Social anxiety are literally freightened in social situations in the fear of being negitively judged by others. It IS a disorder, because people with social anxiety will avoid normal everyday things and it is really bad on one's self-esteem. Look it up, it's a real thing and I have experienced it my whole life. Don't be ignorant and deny stuff like this exists just because you don't experience it.

See, that's not right. I would go to a counselor instead. They listen to your problems, and try to FIX them.

Ya, I want him to tell that to the people who hear voices that tell them to kill people or the people with depression who simply can't get over it no matter what's going on in their life. :P

Yes, I do what you said too. but have you ever thought that you can fix that without pills? Maybe a higher self-esteem, more confidence, more experience talking to people? Why do you need pills?

Edit: And btw, I'm not saying mental disorders don't exist, but they are just over prescribed.

[QUOTE="delol"]I haven´t that anxiety disorder but for what i see in my clinic everyday there are a lot of people suffering from that. Behavioural -cognitive therapy can make wonders in this caseszeus_gb

Itcan help but only if the person is serious about the process and wants to be helped, otherwise it doesn't work.

True as in every medical therapy the will of the patient is half cure The success of the therapy depends also of the quality of the therapist

[QUOTE="Account_27"]Bah, psychiatrists just love to tell people they have disorders. If you're sad, then you have a depression, and need pills. You don't like talking to people? Clearly you have a disorder too.Account_27

Amen, brother. I don't believe in mental disorders either.

I never said anything about pills, and I do agree with you on them. I see a therepist who works on these problems with me, where I am assigned to go out and face situations in which I fear, this makes your brain get used to them and to the point where you don't fear them anymore. I do take Zoloft, but only a low dose. It has helped reduce anxiety, but it's not what helps stop fearing something. Going out and facing the fear is what stops that.

I was mainly just talking to the guy who says mental disorders don't exist.
