I've heard that social cliques only exist in high school. If this is true, why is that and why would there not be any social cliques in college? While we're on the subject, what social clique are you in or once were in?
They don't exist only in high school but they are more prevalent in high school. I myself belonged to a group that was considered to be somewhat unpopular but those who the "popular" kids would still talk to if they didn't have any of their clone friends around. :roll:
Back in Highschool i was part of the jocks, now that i think about it, its sad to see groups serperated like that. My high school had so many cliques, if you werent in one you were a loner.
Me and my friends are just weird--we're in between what you might call "unpopular" and "popular". I can basically talk to anyone, but I really only regularly hang out with five or seven(at the most) people.

I wouldn't say that makes you unpopular, just because you're not in a specific group. It's not just that I"m not in a group. It's neglect and exclusion.
When i was at High School i was never drafted into any groups. I got on with everyone really and just drifted from group to group depending on who i wanted to talk to.
I'm in the clique of people who hide in their basements and play on computers and video games all day. Bill Gates was part of our clique until he graduated.
I live in New Zealand so I didnt have to go through the hell that is American high school (thank the Lord). Cliques are lame and pathetic, people who think theyre popular usually arent. At the high school I went to pretty much all of us were friends, there was a small group (around 20) of people that thought they were 'cool' and called everyone else losers, but they failed to realise that they were a minority and everyone else hated them, therefore they were the 'losers'.
I never had a defined social clique... I pretty much got along with almost everyonedouble_decker

And on topic, dont really know what clique i was in, just talked to those i got a long most with. Always thought people that were in a specific COOL clique,(atleast that was what they thought) was stuck in Evolution from Monkey to Human.
well I had friends from different cliques and I often hung out with most of them. So i was not in a particular one, but i joined my friends every once in a while

People who think they are popular are in the sense that everyone hates them. Popular and liked mean two different things in high school. luckily i was kinda both. I got on with everyone, wasn't anyones best friend, but as a result everyone liked me about the same...
I wouldn't know if this is a social cliques. I'm one of those people who have a lot of friends, but never chooses to actually spend time with them besides when I'm at school, and I choose to just be on my own for the rest of the time.
college has cliques. they are just a tad more subtle sometimes. i mean at my college we have the crazies, the readingites (the ones who studied in england their junior year) the horse nuts, the martin freaks (those who spend all their time in martin science building), the gammas, the ettas (the last two having to deal with the spirit groups.) the partiers. the list goes on, but you see i am lazy and a slacker, there are still cliques in college, but it normally has to do with interests. *shrugs* idk. i don't really fit in with any cliques in college and i never did in high school. that requires human contact like speaking. i am kinda bad at that. so i sit in my room with my computer on gs and lj. honestly in high school i was the kid teachers didn't notice i was so quiet. my ap chem teacher was confused when i came to get make-up work after i had been out a week. he hadn't noticed...

No cilques I know of at my school...I really wouldn't care either...
Highschool is just an effed up social experiment. When you get out of highschool who was popular and who wasn't and who got picked on and who got beat up and who the bullies were do not matter. If bullies continue to be bullies after highschool they will find that most people at 17-18 have matured and frown and confront bullies and verbal assaultists and call b**ls**t.
Let me tell you a cool story on how highschool and what happened between 2 people in two different and hating cliques let the crap drop. I was working as a clerk in a store and a familiar face happened to be in the store. We did not get along in highschool. We looked at each other, shrugged our shoulders, and laughed. I mentioned I had a break coming, and he waited with his buddies until I got my 15 minute break. We drove around in this dude's van and were 'smoking' peacefully.
