Not talking about the original series here (blah), but whenever people are contacted on their communicators, it seems to always be at the end of their sentence or when they are saying nothing at all, never in the middle of a discussion...

Yeah, that's one of the more interesting things in Star Trek. :)

I wouldn't think too much into TNG, the show has got so many insults towards actual science and engineering I fall out of my chair laughing when someone touts it as "realistic".

I don't blame you. TNG and post TNG trek wouldn't be so bad if all the series weren't so god damn pretentious. Roddenbery just HAD to ram his views down our throats in the most arrogant manner he could think of. How many episodes of Trek have just been bursting with Picard's or Janeway's self righteous boring monolouges designed to make us feel bad for being human?

TOS had that too, but damnet, at least Kirk could punch a mother ****er out or blow something up from time to time.
