I have discovered a passive way to induce "sleep paralysis"

First, tuck your sheets into the side of the bed so that they arent loose and you cant move

Sleep on your back and have your face up

If you do this for a whole week, there is a chance you will have an "episode" during the middle of the night

Agreed with everyone saying this. I've had it before. It's scary and not something I WANT to induce. In fact, I'll sleep like the opposite of this.

What if you tuck the sheets too tight and you never get unparalized? :o

Except my bed is a couch, and I have no sheets, just a fairly heavy plush blanket. I have weird dreams every single night. Just the other day, I had a dream that I was Shrek, riding on Donkey up a verticle part of a mountain, and he stopped.....turned his head.... and said to me "If you don't believe in me, we will fall all the way down". Then I woke up.

seriously, why would anyone want to do this?

This man speaks the truth. Sleep paralysis can lead to some awesome lucid dreams. Of course you run the risk of being trapped temporarily in a dream, or worse...a nightmare.

Apparantly it can lead to death. :?

"In Hmong culture, sleep paralysis describes an experience called "dab tsog" or "crushing demon" from the compound phrase "dab" (demon) and "tsog" (crush). Often the sufferer claims to be able to see a tiny figure, no larger than a child, sitting on his or her chest. What is alarming is that a vast number of American Hmong, mainly males, have died in their sleep prompting the Centers for Disease Control to create the term "Sudden Unexpected Nocturnal Death Syndrome" (see Sudden unexplained death syndrome) or "SUNDS" for short; this is now theorized to be a form of Brugada syndrome."

Why would you NOT want to induce sleep paralysis? Sleep paralysis opens gateways to out of body experiences, astral projection, and best of all, lucid dreaming. Sleep paralysis is not scary at all if your mentally strong and is actually quite enjoyable. People who lucid dream sleep longer and wake up without that dreaded tired feeling so why not try it?

Neither could I. Better yet, someone was coming towards me with a rather large needle.

Close your eyes and imagine/visualize that you are literally stepping into the dream world. It takes quite a bit of practice but it works very well.

Yeah, no. Sleep paralysis is something I'd rather not induce.. I've had it happen a few times when I was younger, and it kind of scared me to be honest. (At the time not knowing wtf happened and why.)

Well, I'm pretty in to lucid dreaming/ dreaming and general and have been going to a lucid dreaming website (dreamviews.com) for nearly a year now, so I've been through sleep paralysis a few times to try to get into a lucid dream. It's an interesting sensation. I feel waves going down my body, and my muscles tense slightly, and soon enough I can "see" through my eyelids and enter a dream. I never had any bad experiences with it like some had.

I'm curious now, do a lot of you guys lucid dream? I wasn't expecting so many people here to know about this. For those just introduced, I suggest checking out dreamviews. I promise lucid dreaming isn't some crazy cult thing, it's been scientifically proven, and is very interesting.

Yes, I lucid dream. I got into it by looking into remedies for my insomnia. I can't control my lucid dreams the way some people describe how they can yet.

Actually, sleeping on your back is proven to have more lucid dreams, and, well, dreams in general.

So that makes sense.

Haha.

I had a dream where I got a paper back that I wrote for my Composition class. Some other students read it and they said I had said a bunch of anti-Semetic comments in it. I was like no, those were quotes!! And they refused to listen.

Then I heard a bang so I woke up.

I usually sleep on my back and tuck my sheets in, but I kick so hard during the night I usually untuck the covers. So recently I haven't bothered tucking in my sheets.

I had an "episode" once I have no idea why you would want to inflict it on yourself, it's horrifying. You can't scream, you can't wake up, all you can do is just keep staring forward until you snap out of it or someone frees you. :(

rofl this is the fifth time ive come back to read it and it still makes me laugh.

With that said, what exactly is sleep paralysis?

If i read correctrly, I might have had my first one the other day. I was home for thanksgiving and went to sleep, and I dreamt that I was in a trash compactor (like in Star Wars, only real life) and I was like standing up and yelling, but when I actually woke up there was no transition. It was like I was suddenly not in the trash compactor, but I could remember every single detail. In the dream, I was acting logically and stuff, and everything seemed under my control (except hte fact that I was stick in a trash compactor).

You wake up completely unable to move. Sometimes you'll see things out of the corner of your eye, or a figure at the foot of your bed. Hallucinations basically.
