The song titled "Rockstar" by Nickelback is sending the wrong message to people because it talks about acquiring material things, using drugs, and partying all the time. Just listen to the lyrics and you'll see what I'm talking about. This group is hard to figure out because they have the song titled "If everyone cared" which is a good song with a positive message but then they have songs like Rockstar which send a bad message. One part of Rockstar I don't understand is at the beginning of the chorus when the lead singer says "We all just want to be big rockstars". I don't know who he's talking about but it's definitely not me. I don't care for that lifestyle and I know material things aren't going to make me happy. Nickelback is a good band but they need to figure out which side of the fence they're on and stop sending mixed messages through their music.

Facinating.

I'm sure, if you sent them a letter, the band members would greatly appreciate your evaluation of their song.

Nickelback are one of those bands that fit into the category of "Their songs don't follow any particular pattern in terms of writing and aren't actually about anything" This could be one of the reasons why they are a bad band, but either way, you should rest your mind in the comfort of knowing that nobody really cares what Nickelback have to say.

Uhhhh... but isn't that the life of a rockstar when you think of it? You proved it in your post, they do have songs with positive messages. If you don't like the song, don't listen to it!

And why don't you listen to some rap songs and see how you feel after some of those...

They're saying basically that a lot of people wanna be big, rich and famous, and they're then stating the reasons why it's not so great a lifestyle after all...

wait... why did you pick upon this song?? and why only now?? its not a new song its been around for a long time before its re-release. try listening to some of teh hip-hop or "rap" songs they dont exactly tell us about the good lives we should all be leading.

Plus its just a song, if someone listens this song and thinks "oh... rockstars do drugs so now i will do drugs" was screwed anyway and it was just a amtter of time until they played manhunt and went on a killing spree.

The song doesn't promote it, it's more of an idea of what the average person sees as the rock lifestyle. Nickleback made a good connection between what people see and what you actually get.

No, there really isn't anything complex about them. Nickelback are a gigantic cash-in band, and if they have confusing lyrics then it is a result of poor songwriting.

"Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial..."

"We'll all stay skinny 'cause we just won't eat"

Actually, fairly accurate. The song may not perpetuate ideals of normal society, but it holds true in most aspects of celebrity and rockstar society.

Yeah, but a lot of them smoke weed. But you're right, hardcore drugs like dope are less common nowadays, though coke is still relevant.

Look, to put it in layman's terms, Nickleback ****ing sucks.

I personally would rather eat a set of golf clubs than listen to the trash that they manage to put on a cd (really, it's quite amazing the CD dosen't spontaneously combust or at least try to commit suicide by scratches) and label it music.

I think the actual purpose of the song is to point out and kinda poke fun at this lifestyle that so many people want, not necessarily to endorse it...

As an artist you don't have to pick sides. Just make your music and some people will like while others hate it (especially here at Gamestop where bashing music is everyones favorite pastime). Take Phil Anselmo from Pantera, Down, and one other band which I can't remember. He writes songs which are against racism but then writes about how he wants to legalise dope. Is that a good message? Depends, but he as an artist and should freely write what he wants.

This thread needs to be brought back to the front page for one reason. Nickelback is Awesome!!! Seriously, they are a good band, and send some great messages. Sure, they may not have the most diverse songlist in the world, but that doesn't mean they suck. Everyone seems to hate them because they actually have talent unlike your usual 50 cent, soulja boy, or your basic rap/metal crap. In the song Rockstar, the band is portraying the fantasy of becoming a rockstar. The majority of children have at some point in their life wanted to become famous, but being famous isn't all it is cracked up to be. The song goes from you being rich and owning everything to being a drug addict / anorexic / depressed person, and people only like you because of your wealth. I never listen to the radio or watch those stupid music channels, so I did not know that Nickelback was ever famous. I stumbled across them a few years ago, and I have loved most of their music since. Most people tend to think they suck because they do not use the F word in every other sentence. I have NEVER followed music trends, and even I like Nickelback.

Who cares what their message is. Any song that comes out by them sounds just like the one before it. They're talentless musicians and the people who enjoy it... nevermind, it's way over their heads anyway.

Yes, they just made multiple #1 hits. Any band that does that has to suck, right?. Why does everyone like to always jump on the hate bandwagon. I bet most of the people here, including you, have never even given them a chance.

There are bigger music bands (and celebrities) that have a greater negative influence on children and teenagers than Nickelback. Maybe they were moderately big back in my high school days, but now, they're yesterday's news.

The idea of the song is that people think all rockstars do is just party and do drugs. When in reality it takes skill and hard work (usually) to get into the business. The part that says something like "ill change my name and shave my hair" is giving the message that you can't become a star by doing almost nothing. You need to work for your job. Understand? I havn't read the rest of the comments.

Hmm... I have never been a fan so I don't have any of their albums but there songs are recognizably different. I'm a big RATM fan and hell if I remember the names of a third of their songs because they sound very similar and all deal with similar unjust BS. Nickelback are doing fine as far as songs not sounding the same.

The lyrics were probably created by the fat dude in the basement at the record company. Nickelback is a band purely to make money and radio friendly music, nothing more. It's like a business on wheels.

"Everybody's got a drug dealer on speed dial..."

"We'll all stay skinny 'cause we just won't eat"

Actually, fairly accurate. The song may not perpetuate ideals of normal society, but it holds true in most aspects of celebrity and rockstar society.

Drugs have been losing popularity among the rock crowd since the 90s. No one feels like having adrenaline shot into their heart when they overdose anymore...for shame

Yeah, but a lot of them smoke weed. But you're right, hardcore drugs like dope are less common nowadays, though coke is still relevant.

Weed isn't a drug in my book but that's all opinion. Coke seems like more of a problem with big celebs and big musicians.

A drug by definition is anything that sends you into a retarded state of happiness (basically)

Well then every time I take the Browns to the superbowl I'm doing drugs then.
