It's my college writing class. So today he came up with this new rule that if your cell phone rings in class he kicks you out and marks you absent for the day. I was pretty upset when i heard this....everone in the class is over 18 were all grown men and women. So i'm planning to have my phone ring on purpose then when he attempts to kick me out i tell him off. "i'm paying for this crap let me get my money back then and i'll leave". "you private schools are money hungry pigs anyway" probably throw in a few cusses in there also. Really i dont care i have an 80 average i can transfer to about 4 other colleges and yes they'll take me. What you guys think? what can the professor do anyway

It's a respect thing. Would you let your phone ring if you had a job and were in a meeting? It would be very immature of you to make a scene like that over something so stupid. Put your phone on silent if you are so worried. You can walk out of class and take the call. He just doesn't want it to ring so it doesn't disrupt the class.

Honestly, guy. You're in college now. It's time to start behaving like a mature adult instead of a tantrum-throwing child acting out of spite. It's his class his rules, actually I think most colleges have a policy on turning your phones off while in class. It's all about having a little coutesy and respect, not just for your professor, but for your fellow classmates who'd rather not have their class interrupted by a ringer going of. Rememer, they're paying for the class as well, I'm sure they don't want to hear that crap either. What's so hard about putting it on vibrate? I mean, really?

You're in college and that immature? Do you think you making a fool of yourself in front of the class would really affect him or your classmates at all? Most of them will think you're a moron for not listening to the rules. You're in class for a reason it's not that big of a deal to turn it off for class time. Do you call and cry to your cell company if you just don't use it for 2 hours?

Your professor has the right to impose such a rule, but it would be appalling if he used it to punish somebody who innocently forgot that his/her 'phone was on. I'd say he's obliged to repeat the warning at the beginning of each class. Sorta like those "Please silence your cell phone" messages cinemas play just before the movie starts. :P

How small are your lectures? Phones are always going off in my lectures, but the class size is too big for it to matter.

Perhaps if you act like a mature adult, you will be treated as such. That doesn't sound like a likely condition for you to meet, though.

An 80? That's hardly something to be proud of in college.

You need anger management classes and I'd hope he fails you for disrupting the class. Seriously, this isn't high school anymore, stop being angsty.

Then you should've thought about that before staying in the class so far into the semester. Most every college refunds all or part of your money if you withdraw during a certain period during the first week or so. That week is more than enough time to go over the rules the professor sets in place at the start and if you saw that this was going to be a problem then you should've dropped it then. Kind of silly to be making a fuss about it now.

All of my classes the professor does not want you to have your cell phone ring. They all tell us this the first day of class. They say they will tell you to leave the class for the day if it rings. Most professors will not actually do anything but tell you to turn it off. But some actually will tell you to leave. Welcome to college.. there are still rules, you know.

So boot up or shut up.

Grown men and women huh? Then your phone off. If you can't then drop out. Those are your choices no matter how you go about it. I suggest the first option.

It isn't high school, fighting the man over the right to annoy everyone with your cell phone isn't cool anymore. It is going to bite you in the bum in the long run.

Actually, they can kick him out for whatever reason they want. Doesn't matter if he pays tuition. With thousands and thousands of students, you think they really think twice about someone who'd rather not be there in the first place? With so many others waiting to get in?

I am with the professor on this one, I mean it sounds like your getting your moneys worth in classes, if your phone rings and you get kicked out its your own loss and your own fault, like that other guy said, only cuss him out if you wanna embarass yourself. I mean if I was a professor I would literally hate to hear phones ringing all the time. And who cares if your 25? If your in the class then you have to go by the rules.

What is the point? You should turn your phone off. That is what adults should do and it is HIS class.

If you don't like his approach you drop the calss or sit down with him alone and tell him you didn't feel that was necessary and he will tell you if he feels the same way or not and everyone moves on with their life. That's the adult way to handle it. If you choose to handle it a childish way that you describe that's your call and no one's loss but your own.

Actually, they can kick him out for whatever reason they want. Doesn't matter if he pays tuition. With thousands and thousands of students, you think they really think twice about someone who'd rather not be there in the first place? With so many others waiting to get in?

Guess it depends where one lives as In canada most of our post secondary schools are trying to increase enrollment rates, and I do belive they need cause to remove your from programs here.

LegitGamer3212

again, not the point, if he didn't threaten us, were all like 30+ in the class, its np. but he just starts by threatening us as if hes god. hey i'll confiscate it guys.......hey you'll be outta here guys.....etc.

There is no way you are "30+". None whatsoever. And the professor isn't being paid to deal with listening to ringtones.

First you said you were all 25, now you're 30? I doubt it. A grown man at that age would know better than to whine about something so insignificant. Again, at the beginning of the semester the class rules are outlined alongside the class outline (some call it the syllabus). If you didn't read them then, or didn't bother to, then that's your fault.

sounds really immature.

is it really so much to ask to put your cell phones on vibrate? really? cant you think of the professor whos trying to concentrate and teach a huge college class? :?

do it if you want to embarass yourself.

momo372

well its an immature rule......were all like ages 25 plus and hes saying he'll kick us out and like maybe confiscate our phone or something

If your in the class then you have to go by the rules.

im over 21 im a man and im white, why must i listen to him? if he asked nicely i would, instead of asking nicely he threatens you,.......

your making no sense, yea your over 21, and yea your an adult, but act like one seriously. Its like saying "hey I am an adult, I can disobey the law, I can speed, i can shoot people." If you paid for a class and you accepted the course then you go by the rules. Also its just a fricken phone? cant you live without it for just a few hours? Jeez

If you are over 21 and in college, then your college must have a 99% acceptance rate..

why would so many people wait to get in? you know how many schools are in new york city, also to be honest my private school isn't even the best one its an average one

GTFO, you go to school in the city? Which one? Most of the private schools here are among the best in the country. I know how many there are because I live here. Every semester there are thousands of students that don't get accepted to the college of their choice due to lack of space. Those students either go to another school for a semester hoping to transfer the one they really want to go to, or they get put on waiting lists hoping space opens up.

What does being white have to do with anything? So, you're not only immature but you're also a bigot?

I noticed that too. That was a very, odd thing to note...

Very odd. Makes me wonder if the cellphone thing is just an excuse to cover up what's really bothering him.

[QUOTE="The_Mac_Daddy"]It's a respect thing. Would you let your phone ring if you had a job and were in a meeting? It would be very immature of you to make a scene like that over something so stupid. Put your phone on silent if you are so worried. You can walk out of class and take the call. He just doesn't want it to ring so it doesn't disrupt the class. LegitGamer3212

yeah but when he talks about threatening to confiscate our phone if it rings thats pushing it. its not grammar school its not high school

Then why are you acting like a child?

He has every right to kick you out for disrupting his class. I see nothing wrong with that rule. It isnt hard to put your phone on silence or vibrate.

Are you that dense? The professor is completely in the right to do this. It doesn't matter if you pay to go there or not. The college doesn't need you, you have the privelege of going there. If someone is trying to teach you something, you are supposed to respect that. And if you don't care about it, that doesn't mean others aren't disturbed by it. Almost everyday when I'm in class (in college btw) some moron's cell goes off. Its one thing if you forget, its another to just blatantly ignore the rule and disrupt class. If I was the professor and you pulled that kind of crap on me, and attempted to call me out or some nonsense, you wouldn't be attending my class again. You would be surprised how much pull tenured professors have at colleges...
