The last time I saw a poll about the political balance of these forums, a slight majority of voters here classifed themselves as being right-wing.
So we can easily rule out a "majority mocking minority" issue, leaving several other options to consider. I've personally invalidated the idea of liberals are noisier, having observed that a good deal of our political threads (with the exception of same-sex marriage debates, where the leftist positions are the only rational ones and also where the majority of people thankfully manage to show that they have working brains) again swing towards right-wingers in terms of verbal support. There's also the possibility of liberals being less logical/knowledgable/intelligent people, but nobody here can be the judge of that and expect not to get flamed.
I'd say that the reason is mainly things like right-wing extremists doing/saying things far more outrageous than their left-wing peers, and getting noticed on camera while they're at it (hint: Palin) and therefore making their side look stupider to the average Joe. And we all know that the appearance of unintelligence on this forum illicits much in the way of anger, scorn, hatred and all the good stuff about hell, especially when attributed to the powerful - generally regardless of political idealogy.
As for me, I'm socially left wing and economically centrist, and as far as I'm concerned hating people isn't going to get me anywhere. Different policies will get you different results, and therefore by default people with different political inclinations want different results than myself. And given that I'm a follower of the "you follow your own beliefs" idealogy, I can hardly force them to choose the results I want over their own preferences.
Still, I do have many reasons to "hate" conservatives as far as the social side of things go: it's a right-wing (and unfortunately the current) policy to be against same-sex marriage, no doubt about it, and so far the situation is that several hundred thousand people are denied a simple civil liberty without a single half-decent basis.
