Why are conservatives hated on so much? Or is it just the conservatives like Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity that are despised?

I'm asking out of curiousity. I'm not smart in the area of politics!

I'm asking this based on things I've seen and heard.

I don't hate conservatives, I just disagree with them.

But now that you mention it, i'll never undestand why so many of them rally behind Glenn Beck. he just makes the side look foolish.

Because people were taught and misguided that not only are Human Rights possible to give out to everyone without bankrupting or destroying a country, but that anyone who doesn't believe in them is either misguided or come from large powerful evil rich families. And he touchy issue in Human Rights right now is healthcare. Although health care was doomed to fail. Our family has had terrible experiences with them (the insurance companies) and they all deserve to lose their jobs anyway. (Yes, even the janitors) Healthcare sucks now and it will suck later. I'm just going stay healthy the way people did before doctors were even considered reliable; by staying in shape and avoiding any and everything harmful to me. :P Hospitals scare me anyway.

I do not follow politics, its all a big laugh to me. I do hate that since Obama is president it seems like when anyone says anything bad about him its SUCH a big deal, what no one can express their opinion anymore? When everyone and their mom was hating on Bush that was "cool" no one said a thing. But when someone puts a picture of Obama looking like the Joker up the world is going to end?

That was more back when he first became president and everyone was enamored with him. Since his approval rating has tanked back down to reality he's mostly fair game like any other president...mostly.

That's why I said mostly. I don't care who it is or what race they are, if someone calls me a racist because I don't like Obama I will laugh to their face and just move along with whatever I'm doing.

There is nothing wrong with conservative ideas, socially I fall into the centrist-conservative area, economically I fall into the liberal area.

It's the just conservative movement in America does a good job of making themselves look bad through their ignorance of their own ideology.

Ask most conservatives how they feel about Adam Smith or Milton Friedman influence on conservatism and they'll give you a blank stare.

Also Limbaugh is disliked because he's a xenophobic, (former) drug addict, hypocrite, and liar.

Glenn Beck is disliked because he's a xenophobic, (former) alcoholic, hypocirte, and liar. But I give him a pass because I realize he's just playing politics to make money.

The last time I saw a poll about the political balance of these forums, a slight majority of voters here classifed themselves as being right-wing.

So we can easily rule out a "majority mocking minority" issue, leaving several other options to consider. I've personally invalidated the idea of liberals are noisier, having observed that a good deal of our political threads (with the exception of same-sex marriage debates, where the leftist positions are the only rational ones and also where the majority of people thankfully manage to show that they have working brains) again swing towards right-wingers in terms of verbal support. There's also the possibility of liberals being less logical/knowledgable/intelligent people, but nobody here can be the judge of that and expect not to get flamed.

I'd say that the reason is mainly things like right-wing extremists doing/saying things far more outrageous than their left-wing peers, and getting noticed on camera while they're at it (hint: Palin) and therefore making their side look stupider to the average Joe. And we all know that the appearance of unintelligence on this forum illicits much in the way of anger, scorn, hatred and all the good stuff about hell, especially when attributed to the powerful - generally regardless of political idealogy.

As for me, I'm socially left wing and economically centrist, and as far as I'm concerned hating people isn't going to get me anywhere. Different policies will get you different results, and therefore by default people with different political inclinations want different results than myself. And given that I'm a follower of the "you follow your own beliefs" idealogy, I can hardly force them to choose the results I want over their own preferences.

Still, I do have many reasons to "hate" conservatives as far as the social side of things go: it's a right-wing (and unfortunately the current) policy to be against same-sex marriage, no doubt about it, and so far the situation is that several hundred thousand people are denied a simple civil liberty without a single half-decent basis.

I don't think there's an enormous amount of hate going on as there is just disagreement between liberal/conservative on hot button issues (which is the kind of issues we see here most). I must say though, any side acting like the victim because of this are doing themselves no favours.

The internet is mostly very liberal and gives a very poor image of conservatives. I'm on a college campus and being conservative is nearly a crime to some of these people yet they don't understand how I don't own a gun, I don't own a bible, I don't own a big truck, because apparently being conservative means I have all of these things.

The image of conservatives is very negative on the internet and in a lot of places. The conservatives in the media spotlight don't help much as a lot of the time they usually have a lot of "foot-in-mouth" moment that then get blown up by the liberal media and fed to the youth.

I've met people who hated conservatives with a burning passion. Thought they were just bad people for being conservative. They swore that no conservative cares about anybody but themselves. It's a poor image that conservatives have.

Being on a college campus I'm in the heart of the most liberal parts of America. I've heard some of the craziest ideas ever from people here. No logic or reasoning behind it at all. The professors are hit and miss. Some are really liberal while others are fairly moderate with some left leaning tendencies, except for one economics professor who was very conservative. This atmosphere of 95% liberal is a breeding ground for negative images of conservatives to be built since liberals here have no real contact with true conservatives except for the crazies on TV and the images on the web.

The web for the most part is a lot of kids believing that liberal is much better than conservative. Which doesn't surprise me since at a young age we are taught to be kind to each other and to care about others, and this is the image of the typical liberal person. Also the fact that liberal politics are much easier to comprehend than a conservatives politics. Case and point trickle down economics and the idea of a free market. Kids don't understand how economies so they don't understand the ideas that conservatives bring, as they usually are pretty complicated instead of letting the government control stuff, which is pretty plain and simple at the surface (but can get stupidly complicated).

I'm flattered. I also feel that social issues and economic issues should be kept seperate. Because a economic conservative is very different from a social conservative and what happens often is social conservative end up supporting economic conservatives when it goes against their best interest. And economic conservative end up having to cater to the radical social conservatives all because they both share the name conservative.

I despise the idea of a free market, just the idea of the Securities Exchange Commission never existing is truly frightening. There need to be elected reigns and corresponding legislation to control some of the more devious business people out there. A truly free market would never work with man's lust for greed and power. Checks and balances are necessary, an ever growing population and increasingly complex society can't just shrink it's government.

There need to be elected reigns and corresponding legislation to control some of the more devious business people out there. A truly free market would never work with man's lust for greed and power. Checks and balances are necessary, an ever growing population and increasingly complex society can't just shrink it's government.

i agree with this statement

Conservatives (at least in the American sense) ought to call themselves right-wing liberals. Just the name conservative pretty much brings up the thought of anti-progress. And really, who doesn't like progress?

Well, conservative people. Tradition has its own appeal to certain groups of people.

Conservatives are fine with progress, they just thing it should be gradual, as opposed to initiating sweeping wide-spread reform.

I don't hate conservatives, but a lot of the people speaking for their movement sure do hate people like me.

You are on a forum that is heavily made of of high school kids and younger. There aren't going to be many Conservatives in that demographic. GS used to swing even more to the left than it does now.

Sajedene

Pretty much this. Oh the kiddies!

Saying all non-conservatives are kids is as false as saying all conservatives are 70+ year old bankers.

With some things, conservatives see no reason for change, because the other side is pursuing an unnecessary or ill-advised change that's being pushed under the guise of "progress."

A problem I see is that people tend to judge groups based on their extremes.. and while an extreme liberal might be an annoying elitish smug snob, an extreme conservative can hold views that are much more harmful and offensive.
