I am going to start learning one of these languages neext year and I am not sure which one to choose so I would like to see some opinions on them. Which one is easier to learn? Which one is more useful? Which one would you choose?

I live in Europe, Slovenia.

Both languages work almost exactly the same. Just go with whichever is more interesting to you.

depends. Where do you live?

If you live in Canada, french. U.S., spanish. If neither, then I would say Spanish, it's more widely spoken.

Well depends where you live, I speak fluent spanish already since I'm hispanic, and spanish is spoken more than french, but it's all about where you live, if you're in the US definitely spanish.

they are both pretty similar but spanish might be easier because the words are pronounced exactly as they are written so you could find it easier to understand when hearing. once you have learned spanish, french would come much easier if you decided to learn that as well.

I've heard Spanish is easier. My friend (we're from Poland) hasn't had any problems learning it while my other friend is complaining on French all the time

Spanish all the way. To speak French you really have to make an effort with the accent but Spanish just flows.

I'd choose Spanish because numerous countries have it as their native language as opposed to French, which only a few countries use.

Spanish!!

By the way, learn spanish is not as easy as it seems, there are some vocals which are difficult to pronounce. French phonetic may be more complicated, but the Spanish grammar and his verb system require so much time.

PD: I'm spanish, any doubt or question, you know :P

I say French. I'd love to learn it one day. I find it strangely irresistible.

That's true, the Spanish accent is definitely easier. It depends what countries you're most interested in visiting/working in.

I wanted to take French instead of Spanish. French seems more useful especially here in the U.S. where all of the instruction manuals I receive now have Spanish as the last language available.

It depends on why you want to learn either language. Seeing as how you live in Europe though, I'd go with French, as it's spoken in France, Switzerland, Belgium etc. It'd be more useful than Spanish. Not sure if it's easier to learn though.

French is harder than Spanish. I learnt French in school and hated it, while Spanish came to me a lot easier. If you learn Spanish you could travel the Americas and go to Spain, If you learn French you could travel through west and central Africa and go Quebec, France, Switzerland and South Belgium.

I'd much rather see the Americas. Spanish is spoken by a lot more people than French too.

I think Spanish could be more beneficial to you because Spanish is much more widespread throughout the world. It could help you out in the long run.

All you need to learn in French is "Je me rends" then you're sorted. :P

Depends on where you want to go and what you want to do. I'm in Canada, so I'm learning French instead of Spanish.

I had the same choice and I took French and didn't regret it. I definitely prefer the sound of French to Spanish.

I speak Spanish natively, but I'm not sure which language you would go with.

If you're just taking it for high school, and you only plan to take 2 years, the very basics of spanish are much easier than the basics of French. I'd go with Spanish.

If you're going to take more years, take French. French is a little harder at the beginning but all the more advanced stuff is based on the basic stuff, where as Spanish gets harder the more advanced you get.

Yeah, if you can speak English and Spanish, you can communicate with 50% of the world's population.

If you can speak English and French, you can communicate with only 35% of the world's population.

They are both incredibly similar in stricture. Essentially, neither is really easier to learn than the other. The usefulness of the languages depends on where you are. Speaking French is a major reason I got my job, but spanish would be close to useless here. (don't take that the wrong way. A language is always useful, it's just that no one here speaks spanish.)

Some other things to think about for Spanish.

Spanish is the official language of 22 countries. That's 10 percent of the world.

Spanish is also the universal translation language because of it's flexibility. In English, we only say,"He went to the store." In Spanish you can say it in the following ways and still make sense gramatically:

  • To the store he went.
  • To the store went he.
  • He to the store went.
  • He went to the store.
  • Went to the store he.
  • Went he to the store.

How many of those make sense in English?
