I've just returned from the midnight showing of Spiderman 3. I have to say that while I wasn't overly excited about the movie, I did really want to see it due to the fact that it was going to have my favorite Marvel comic character, Venom. After being invited to the midnight showing I started to build up the anticipation for the movie as it drew closer.

After having seen it what do I think? I really didn't care for it. I'll start by talking about what I did enjoy. I thought that reintroducing the Green Goblin, now Harry, was a great move. Having Harry's misguided revenge muddle up friendships and the romance between MJ and Peter was great. The scenes were charged and emotional. They were a perfect fit for the third movie in the series. I also enjoyed the scenes where Spiderman was in the black costume. His change in attitude and demeanor was fitting, and it fed perfectly into the Green Goblin story of loss, revenge, and redemption.

What didn't I like? I felt that the entire plot of the Sandman was useless. He was completely extranneous and had absolutely no point in the movie. The entire plot thread could have been dropped and would have saved the movie a large amount of useless downtime. I don't especially know all of what Sandman is capable of but I don't believe he can fly like he was capable of in the movie and I didn't think he could grow to monstrous size, at least not without having more sand in the immediate area to manipulate. I felt like I was watching a large sand King Kong of sorts.

The worst offense though was Venom. I've always been wary about how Topher Grace was going to do as Eddie Brock. He doesn't have the size for the character and I'd never seen him display the attitude that Brock does. While I think he had most of the attitude down and I could have dealt with how he portrayed Venom, his stature just didn't fit. Venom is supposed to be a hulking beast that towers over Spiderman. He is supposed to be the predator that is stronger and faster. Here he just seemed like another punk kid with a costume. Also, was it necessary to have a crazy raptor screech for his voice and why did the Venom mask retract almost every time that Brock went to talk?

Venom should not have been introduced in the movie other than as a brief portion at the end when it would have been passed to Brock. For being Spidermans biggest villain of the last two decades, he was a waste that was easily dealt with and by all accounts actually killed! I can't even wrap my mind around that one.

Ideally I would have liked to have seen the majority of the movie having been about Spiderman's conflict with the symbiote and with Harry. It would have been more than enough plot to drive the entire movie and would have set up a beautiful fourth. The introduction and canning of Brock could have still occured and, while I don't quite understand why she needed to be added at all, Gwen Stay could still have been introduced as well.

Was I the only one that expected something more out of Dr. Connors. Having been shown the symbiote it could have hinted at his experiments of regeneration which would have allowed the fourth movie to be about Venom and The Lizard. Venom would have his backstory already taken care of and The Lizard's would only have required the results of his experiments.

I just didn't care for it. It could have done so many things better and left out so much of the fluff. The movie was far longer than it needed to be and fell apart under the weight of all its various plotlines.

I posted this in the sticky but I'll post here too.

I just saw it before and it was a pretty eventful night. First off who should I see? Jessica Alba, I was like "what the hell?" but she was there with the other cast members of the fantasic four promoting it and then I saw like 90 other people there too. She is still really hot in real life too.

Then I go in and find out we get the Vmax cinema which are new giant enhanced screens by village, it was massive and really sharp picture too. I think we are one of the first places in the world to get it but if your country or cinema gets it I recommend watching your movies in that one its awesome.

So finally it starts and to be honest I thought it was awesome. I dunno how people could hate it it was fast paced but not that it ruined parts by jumping from scene to scene too fast(Eg. Harry potter 4, star wars 3). I found spider man 2 to be too slow so this was much better. It had amazing action parts and the effects were great but one thing I hated though was (I'm going into spoilers now so if you want to read more click the spoiler tab)...
THEY KILLED OFF VENOM! WTF! It is awesome that he was in it but for what...15 minutes? Not that 15 mins is bad if he escaped at the end but he died! That is so lame! He could have been in 4,5,6 spider man! Green goblins story arc was in all 3 movies! Bah! I hope he does come back I don't care how bad or lame the story is of how he didn't die I want more venom!

Also Emo hair does not = evil and dunst shouldn't have sung like 3 times...once was more than enough.
Still even though those things annoyed me it still didn't stop me from loving it and the end battle was awesome. I like how there were 3 bad guys too and all 3 were WAY better than doc ock. Come on he was a fat guy in some ratty dirty clothes in the movie.

Overall I loved it.

I would recommend it for sure.....the action scenes were amazing....the only downfall to the movie is some poor scenes where they try to get laughs and (of course) not enough venom

Some minor spoilers**

I just got back from a midnight showing and to be honest I was disappointed. The fight scenes were pretty awesome, and the ending one was very cool. Yet the entire feel of the film wasn't the same as the first two, its hard to describe. Then when Peter went all "bad" I cringed, and nearly covered my eyes, it was that bad. His walking though the street gig, while dancing and acting weird made me think "yea this isn't Peter Parker". I know he was supposed to act different, yet not like that, and not with that stupid emo haircut. Most things felt out of the place, and the charm from the first 2 were completely gone.

3/5 for me.

Wow, just wow, and this is the reason why crappy movies sell so much. You say the 3 villains in the final film are better then Doc Oc, come on! There is no character development whatsoever in any of the villains in this film. The only notion of an emotional struggle with ones self is Harry deciding if he wants to help Peter or not, and we don't even see it. This is not a very good film, I rather say movie in this case as I hold film to a higher standard, the first two were much better. The reason why the first two are so good is that they don't try to accomplish to much in one film, there more character driven, and the hero and the villains have heart. Spiderman 3 is a washed out overdone movie that somehow cost upwards of $300 million to make. I don't know whats worse, wasting $300 million to make Spiderman 3 or spending $300 million on the Iraq war.

Not even going to comment on your Harry Potter and ROTS comment, already know those are much better films.

There was already character development in the last 2 and probably too much in the last which is why there wasn't enough action in it and too much talking. I wasn't going in expecting a long character based movie I went in expecting a fun action movie and I got it. It was a sure hell of a lot better than trash like X3 or superman returns. They were awful.

Also about harry potter 4 and ROTS they were almost rushing from scene to scene trying to fit 4 hours of film into 2 and a half.  HP4 if you had read the book cut far to much out and left pointless bits in and ROTS was almost like cutting from 1 major bit to another and missing everything that ties them together, anakin turns to the dark side much to fast.

As for my opinion, I didn't like the movie, sandman was a wuss, venom was half assed instead of being a truely great main villian like he should have been, and hobgoblin was basically just there...

I thought Spider-Man 3 was fantastic, probably my favorite one thus far. It just depicted so well on Peter Parker's life-- he thought he had his life all set, only to figure in the end that he's still a human being, and that his life is still troubled. And trying to balance the morale duties of his abilities was done greatly.

One thing-- I thought Venom should have been the main villian. Not enough Venom, and the sequences with Venom and Spider-Man we're done pretty good, just wish we could have seen more of the conflict between the two. I didn't like the fact that Venom died, but oh well.

Yes, he certainly does. Goblin: I thought the new goblin was pure genius in everyway, the emotion driving Harry to do what he did was really well done. James Franco preformed better then I expected and for that I give Goblin an 8/10. Sandman: Man I really felt bad for Sandman, seeing sandman for the first time while he pulls himself together and realizes what happened to give, that was really a great part inside the moive, I believe Sandman needed to be inside the movie for 2 reasons, (1) because hes cool, and (2) because it gives Parker a chance for a chance to let go of the hatred towords his uncles killer and forgive him, Thomas Haden Church's proformence was great and I give him a 7.9/10 Venom: By far my favorite Comic book character ever, Venom was the main reason why I saw this film, (I would have saw it anyway) Topher Grace really pulled it off and when I first heard Grace was going to be Venom I said to myself... thats genius!!! 10/10

For those of you that have said you liked how Venom was portrayed I have to say that you've obviously not been a fan of Venom since his inception and have not read many comic books with him in it. They did a very poor job on him in the movie.
