Hard work alone will rarely get you there. Luck sometimes will. More often it's a combination of both combined with a good idea and some existing capital.
Ideally all of the above. Hardwork is of course the best way, unless you're really lucky I suppose. Charisma is also extremely important if you're trying to be self made.
Hardwork, perserverance, luck, connections, charisma, and starting early. Seriously I'm a senior in HS, and there are some people you can tell will just never be wealthy, whereas others are already on the path to riches, thinking ahead, saving money, looking towards the future etc.

Hardwork and Ethic But mostly engineer related jobs wil get you rich.. It is hard though. No easy way to get rich which is what people in America don't understand. You are hugely dependent on what type of job/career you choose. But if you want to talk in general you need to work hard and be prepared for opportunities. You're lucky if you get opportunities but you need to be prepared for them.

People in engineering careers may make the most in aggregate, but if the goal is to find the best chance to make a lot of money in a relatively short period of time, that opportunity is definitely found in high stakes finance/speculation/investment with some measure of leverage.
The trick is that you have to find ways to make money that others have not thought of. The people I know who are rich did it by coming up with very creative ways to provide service in exchange for money and more customers, sometimes skirting the law through some sort of loop hole. There is one thing they all have in common and that's that they are excellent communicators and are able to spot ways to make money that others can't. The unfortunate part is it is really hard to teach someone how to make money as a business person. You almost have to be a natural at it.
Register on YouTube. Make videos. Have a visible cleavage as the thumbnail to every video even if it has nothing to do with the video. Monetize them. Profit.
