So, which sports do you find more difficult than originally thought? In my head, table tennis and badminton were a piece of cake, until I actually played them.

nba, people always say that pro ball is easy compared to lets say football. gaurding an nba player for 45 min is exausting, then after your done gaurding you have to make baskets on the other end.

Golf. It's a miracle if the ball goes straight or even in the air.

Yup, I'd say Golf is definitely the hardest sport.

I find Badminton really easy but I'm absolutely awful at Tennis. I just can't keep the ball within the confines of the court - always flies into the river behind the courts.

Golf is probably the hardest to master. I've been playing on and off for most of my life and I'm decent (105 for 18 holes let's say). It's also crazy how hard a sport gets when you have not played it in a long time. Growing up I was a hockey player and stopped in my early teens. Laced up last year to play with some friends and my god was I out of air and finding it difficult to keep my speed on skates. Absolutely shocking.

ive always said this, golf is a game not a sport..

sport - competing against another person or team to achieve victory (in ping pong you play another player to win)

game- playing against a set feild in order to win. (in golf you play the course and attempt to be lower then the courses set par)

dont hate me for that..

Baseball. american movies make it look incredibly easy(standing around, scratching and spitting- I thought I could be a pro), then, one day, your junior high sports teacher hands out bats and balls [pun here]. Long story short- you end up feeling like a douchebag.

I say golf is definitely harder than it looks, but I'd never say it's the hardest. I think MMA/Boxing would take that crown. We see fighters go at it and they make it looks so easy, but that crap takes years upon years of mental and physical training.

Oh yeah, golf is definitely way harder than it looks. I couldn't even hit the ball when I tried.

Also I'd say skiing. It looks so easy to turn and to stop but I couldn't do it for the life of me.

Out of sports that I've played it would have to be golf. That little dimpled ball can kiss my ass.

Driving a car is hardly a sport. I'll admit that it takes a tremendous amount of skill but it's not a sport IMO.

I've never played it but I imagine I would be raging if someone bumped my stones. Seems like a very frustrating sport (if you can even call it a sport)

I would say Cross-Country. Everyone I talk to about it is like "All you do is run, how hard can it be?" But trust me, running 5-8 miles every day can really take a toll on your body.

Golf is only a sport if you count shooting baskets/playing horse a sport...or count throwing a football through a tire a sport. I think it is an incredible skill (one honed with time and practice)...but IMO it is not a sport. -Tom Watson (60+ years old) finishing second at a major (like reaching the NBA finals) shows that it is about skill and not athletic ability -also, see John Daily Though maybe someone here can explain how playing horse is not a sport but golf is -both involve competition -both take skill/practice -both are really just about you, a ball, and a hole

I'd say baseball from personal experience. As a catcher it can be hard at times when teenagers are slinging the ball 75+ mph at you, specially curveballs in the dirt and blocking them takes time. Catching knuckle balls, thats a different story... theres no for sure path of it, its just random and thats what makes it good. Also hitting the ball takes a good amount of skill. Now at the pro levels in MLB, it just amazes me how they can do it at a 94 mph fastball or a 85mph curve ball and stuff. Thats just insane! Thats just hitting and catching.. lol

Golf. Whenever I go to the driving range I always start off good. And then I start to suck. Then the only club I can hit good is the 8 iron.

I would have to go, like most people in this thread have, with golf. I really enjoy the sport and have been playing it since I was a kid, but unlike baseball (which I've also played since I was little) I have not been able to do consistently well in golf. It is so hard to replicate the swing that will get you the best possible shot, and then factor in that you're not even always hitting from the same distance and have to adjust your swing to fit multiple situations It's a miracle people can play it so well professionally.

I would say soccer even pro have a hard time making a goal and the training is brutal. Next would be the 100/400 meter dash also boxing the training makes many quit.

Formula 1. People think : That's driving! That's not even a sport! Even I could do it!
And those people have no idea what they're talking about. You're basically sitting for about an hour and a half in a 50+ degrees celsius environment in your three-layers fire proof clothing. Only this part sounds pretty damn hard physically. Now add in the G forces. These guys pull multiple Gs (Up to 5+) about 10 to 15 times a lap depending on the circuit... each race has about 50 laps now do the maths how many times you're pulling insance amount of Gs without a G suit like fighter pilots have.
That's pretty much it as far as physical pain is concerned but now, while dying of heatstroke and being ripped apart by G forces, you got to drive the fastest four-wheeled machine on earth, against 23 other people, on insane circuits that are specially designed to test your ability. The sheer mental concentration and skill that is required to simply take one turn in a Formula 1 car at full speed is beyond most people's understanding of focus. IMO that is the one sport that defines harder than it looks.

Swimming. At a glance swimming is pretty easy, but when you are actually swimming a long distance in a competition, you will get tired. Onlookers will wonder why the swimmer just doesn't speed up, it's because it's exhausting and it takes a lot of energy. This comes from someone who currently swims for my high school so i am a little biased.

Skateboarding. It took me several years to perfect a single trick (the kickflip), and there are professionals out there who are pulling off stuff like this.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR5T9beh3ik

In high school I joined the basketball team because I always figured it was easy as pie.. turns out it was a lot tougher than it seemed with the warm ups and the actual playing. Because of that I then got into rugby and soccer :)

Table Tennis and golf from experience. I played junior varsity in high school football one year as a lineman, and that can be easy if you're big, not to mention getting tackled isn't always as bad as advertised.

How would you know being from the Great White North? ;)

Cross-country running and soccer (in my experience). Both sports were more tougher than taking Karate 4 times a week. And that says a lot.

The first thing that came to my mind is golf. Another one I think doesn't get too much of a mention would be action sports. Things like snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding, etc. are made to look sooo easy by the pros but they are all difficult. The tricks that those athletes can pull are just unreal.
