Star Trek is vastly superior due to being actual sci-fi, as opposed to fantasy set in space.

What's wrong with fantasy? How does it being "actual sci-fi" make Trek better?

I'm not fond of fantasy, it's all pretty much the same as far as I'm concerned.

So star wars, lord of the rings, and harry potter are all the same? You'd think I'd have noticed that.[QUOTE="smc91352"]
I know Star Wars is for kids, but I love it soooooo much.

No. Almost everything Lucas has his hand in is aimed at kids. The EU is more serious and dark in tone.
I don't really follow the EU very much, but I love the idea of dark jedi, the crazy force powers, and just darker tone in general. If we could get some SW movies like that, it'd be pretty friggin awesome.[QUOTE="JediXMan7"][QUOTE="smc91352"]

But the books and comics are good. The Legacy of the Force novels, NJO novels, Legacy comic series, etc. are very good.

never really liked the cartoons. And I also just meant the first episodes to come out(4, 5, and 6)[QUOTE="Bloodaxe726"]

Star Wars is better and has had much mroe of a cultural impact. besides the ships in starwars are cooler, lightsabers and blasters are way way better than phasers, and the force is just plain awesome. Also, none of the villians in Trek come close to the awesomeness of Darth Vader.
I don't think Lucas ever claimed it was sci-fi. It's a space opera actually. I like Star Wars for a multiple reasons, including the fact that you can type it out using only your left hand.Star Trek is vastly superior due to being actual sci-fi, as opposed to fantasy set in space.

Star Wars since I don't really care for Star Trek that much. In fact, IMO, no Star Trek movie can even surpass Episode V, one of the few movies I like from Star Trek is the one that came out in 2009.
As for games, Star Wars destorys it.
TV may go to Star Trek.
Imo, Deep Space 9 is still the best Star Trek series and alone it pwn everything George Lucas made. The next generation was ok at the beginning, then became extremely good when Wesley Crusher left the show. Voyager was horrible (episode 1 of season 2 is the worst star trek episode ever), Enterprise was also horrible ( more like a ridiculous american soap in space than star trek)
Star wars was ok, but it went downhill with episode 1.
Ep4-5-6 were awesome for the time and they are still good. The only bad part about these movies are the Ewok, talk about a ridiculous idea they had to make Star wars kid-friendly ( I was 8 when I watched ep6 for the first time and I though they were retarded). After that we got Jar Jar... No comment
Well, the poll said which has had a bigger impact, and I'm not sure which I'd say for that. They actually both inspired a lot of people in their work towards improving actual space travel and technology in general, so they both had a pretty important impact.
Well, Star Wars is my personal favorite of the two but nothing beats the original StarTrek series. ;)

why? beacose they use some fancy words?
ST "science" is just as scientific as the SW one. Most of the technobable used in ST makes no sense whatsoever and usualy comes down to "violet scaner mutation protein" nonsense when you actualy "translate" it
not saying ST is bad, but calling it more scientific beacose it uses fancy lating words (that like said, make no sense whatsoever anyway 99% of the time) is just naive
I like both, but I prefer Star Wars. I don't know why people keep comparing them though, they are radically different... if they both didn't have Star in their name I doubt anyone would even ask this. Besides the name and the fact that characters are constantly flying around in space and landing on various planets, I see almost no similarities. They even use different weapons/technology and take place in different galaxies, not to mention one is a TV show and the other a series of movies.
IMO Star Trek, but the two are very different.
Star Wars was very good during the original trilogy, but it went downhill from there.
