What do you think was the best series out of these? Or do you think that to many people live in there basements of their mothers who worsship these series? Or mabey just mabey you think these series are over rated and suck? Finally which one do you hate? I frankly like all of them except for star trek which i think is over rated on the acount it was so BORing.

They're all good. Hard to decide. I hold a special affinity for Star Trek: The Next Generation or Voyager, but each is great in its own way.

Lightsaber-wielding, force-controlling, guys with blaster-owning vs. phasers......meh.LOTR is cool, but it's just a super epic version of the middle ages.

all 3 are different. Star Wars is a space opera about defeating the Empire. Star Trek is about exploring space and all it may hold. LOTR is similar to Star Wars but not quite the same.

I can't choose.

However, I will say this...Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was better than any of the Star Wars or LOTR movies.

Without the help of Star Wars, LOTR would not have been possible, nor would later iterations of the Star Trek franchise. Then again, the way Star Trek popularized space adventure probably lent a hand in George Lucas getting the project off the ground. On the other hand, LOTR is based upon one of the most important works of literature in history.

As far as the movies themselves go, Star Trek movies have warn out their welcome with about fifteen too many, none of them setting the same standard as the original series did. Speaking of the original series, looking back at it, it's nothing short of laughable: the makeup is bad, the acting is bad, the props are bad, in fact, just about everything is bad. Meanwhile, the original Star Wars trilogy has stood the test of time: the special effects are still easy on the eyes despite being more than thirty years old. Unfortunately for Star Wars, the prequel trilogy has stripped the franchise of a lot of its glory with such characters as Jar Jar Binks, as well as ridiculous plots and childish acting. As for the Lord of the Rings, it's an entertaining movie trilogy based on what is probably the century's greatest epic masterpiece. While I don't think Tolkien would have been particularly fond of how his mythology was stripped apart or how some of the material was altered to make some scenes more dramtic or quicker, I do believe it was visually true to Tolkien's world for the most part, and that it was probably the best way to adapt that book into film.

Whether or not LOTR will have the same lasting appeal as the Star Wars trilogy had is up for question, but I think of the three franchises, the Lord of the Rings wins hands down.

Nah, all Star Wars was was a complete rip of LOTR, only set in space. If you don't believe me, tell me which I'm talking about with my description here..."A young boy sets out to accomplish something that no one thinks he can do. Along the way, his old, masterful, wise mentor dies in the first part of the trilogy, only to help the young boy from the after life. Various people of weird, different races join the boy in his adventure to help him stop the bad guys."

not just that...star wars was a rip off of mythology in many ways potentially...greek, roman, egyptian, sumerian...take your pick. I was speaking of the success of the two in my comment.

EDIT: not to mention a borrowing of Judeo-Christian traditions....again, potentially.

The original Star Wars trilogy is my overall favourite, but LOTR is equal purely because it is such an epic story.

EDIT: Star Trek seems too conservative for me. But I haven't really seen enough of it to make a valid argument.

Both LotR and star wars conform to the concept of the monomyth. This is the idea that almost all mythologies from all over the world follow the same basic structure involving a young, innocent hero who goes on a journey of great danger and importance. There's more to it than that but i can't be bothered explaining it all. My point is, neither are rip offs of the other, they are both myths following the traditional mythical structure

Did you just use the word's "Conservative" and "star trek" in the same sentence? You might be using conservative in a different context than i'm interpreting, but if you mean conservative as in ideology, you are so far off it's unbelievable. Star Trek is based of the premisis that all of Humanity has adopted Far Left socialism. Hell, being a conservative in the federation is pretty much outlawed...

I would have used the word "necessarily," but i get what you mean.

I would challenge any to find a story that is truly original.

Certainly not, I only meant the visual style and cinematography of the movies. Hence the latter part of the statement "I haven't really seen enough of it to make a valid argument". I was just referring to things like the costumes etc... I like to see Sci-Fi films that are wild and eccentric like The Fifth Element and Star Wars.

I know I'm probably still offending you seeing as you're obviously a Trek fan :P but I'm one of those people who grew up in the Star Wars universe.

Lord of the Rings. Star Wars is good, but Episode 1 and 2 sucked. And I'm not a Star Trek fan, just watch it once in a while.
