 Seriously? Yes they will. Film from back in the 50s is still better picture quality than 1080p can actually show.

Guess I've seen too many botched jobs then. Some older movies on Blu-Ray didn't look a single bit better than their DVD counter parts. I guess Lucas will really go to town though with enhancing his films.

It's because they essentially copy the DVD source to the Blu-Ray. If they do it correctly and actually scan the masters they look quite a bit better.

But how much of that is the TV technology? Because I've seen Blu-Ray look the same as DVD.

I haven't heard any good word for a release date as of yet and late last year the head of FOX pretty much shot down any hope that it would be coming out any time in the near future unfortunately. I'm not sure what would be holding up the process though as the DVD release was very late in its life cycle due to Lucas wanting to punish people for his investing in a really, REALLY bad technology idea that went under very quickly.

When it does (or perhaps when the holographic storage version comes out) I certainly hope it includes the original Star Wars sans all the digitally assisted additions and the added "Episode IV - A New Hope" opening crawl.

I can't wait either---on a side note, I would love to see the Lord of the Rings Trilogy in blu ray as well. :)

Nevermind... just saw an ad out for a pre-order for Lord of the Rings on blu ray... :)

And yes, we do need another version of Star Wars---why not, esp. if it's done well on blu ray?

If the studios take the time to do them right, then yes they will. Of course the new Star Wars trilogy will look better than the old ones.

Don't bother. It's the theatrical releases. I'm waiting for the extended editions.

It all depends on the quality of the original source material. It also depends on how much time the studio is willing to spend on cleaning up the original film. Take Gladiator for example. They released it on BD and it looks like crap because they basically did a DVD to BD transfer. It looks so bad the studio is releasing a "Remastered" version.

edit~ I also use the reviews on www.blu-ray.com to determine if a movie is worth the DVD upgrade. They reviewer is pretty good and they post screen grabs from various movies.

No problem. And when you do start buying movies Amazon is usually the cheapest.

Hopefully George Lucas will get some sense knocked into him and release the ORIGONAL Star Wars films on Blu-Ray, not this CGI bullcrap!

Han shot first, Greedo didn't even shoot.

Hayden Christiansian should be Darth Vader's Ghost

Naboo shouldn't be in the celebration scene at the end of Return of the Jedi (or at the very least get rid of the "Weesa free")

Everytime Lucas re-releases the Star Wars trilogy, he manages to butcher some aspect of it that further distances itself from its origonal form.

The Seventh Seal (1957) on DVD:

And on Bluray:

You can check out the high-res images and more comparisons here.

So yeah, Star Wars and Indiana Jones could potentially look kick ass if the transfers are done properly.

ITs odd when I think about it, how much coverage Star wars always gets.. When I personally think Indiana Jones is the superior series in every way.

You know, if Lucas includes the original theatrical versions of Eps IV-VI, I may be inclined to buy them on Blu-Ray. If it's the "special edition", forget it. I already bought the trilogies three times so far...

I think Lucas already announced it :P THAT is the only reason why I am not buying the Star Wars and Indiana Jones collection.

Plus with a sharper image, I can finally confirm if ET really was in EP 1. GOD I cant wait

eh, I'll get lord of the rings when that comes out on blu-ray. I've never been a big fan of star wars.
