Have all three parts been filmed ahead of time like The Lord of the Rings was?cslayer211I believe they are still filming, I think with LotR they were filming right up to the end as well.
On-topic, I imagine its just going to be a background elf or something. Its probably going to be similar to how Peter Jackson does his cameos in LotR.
Why? Surely you relalize his screentime would be less then 5 seconds most likley?[QUOTE="Storm_Marine"]
I sure as f uck hope not.
Bardock47
That's 5 seconds too much. I can't stand him.
He really did run though. I'd like to see him in the movies, but he seems a little old to play an elf.Is it true? Or, is this like the time when he ran for President?

According to the article Colbert can speak "the language" of the elves, but the article doesn't say if he speaks Quenya or Sindarin.
Did you see him in Law and Order? He was great!

Which Law and Order? Was it a recent episode?

Yeah that's what I'm saying. I don't think elves are supposed to look like middle-aged humans. I guess with enough makeup it can work.[QUOTE="AdamPA1006"]

No it was like season 5 or so of Criminal Intent. Not as good as SVU but not bad either[QUOTE="whipassmt"]Well most of the elves are old, except they don't really age.[QUOTE="Laihendi"]He really did run though. I'd like to see him in the movies, but he seems a little old to play an elf.Laihendi

Theres still the men in the town by the mountain ( ithink,,,Dale, can remember, too lazy to go get the book off my shelf:P) or one fo the dwarves dain brings for the BAttle of five armies. Why?Because it would make a joke of a serious movie. That would be incredibly stupid if they put him in the movie.

It's well known that he is a huuuge LOTR fan though. Guy knows his LOTR lore. He and James Franco went toe to toe in an episode with Colbert besting him. I have no problem with the whole thing.

Principal photography wrapped up a couple of months ago, but they'll probably be doing pick up shoots here and there pretty much up until film 3 is released. That's how it went with 'The Lord of the Rings'.

Cool if he is, no big deal really. I've gotten tired of him, his act has ran it's course, and the people that go to him and Jon Stewart for their news are just LOL worthy. They are comedians, not news casters or reporters, they both have a liberal biased agenda to their shows too. You are not supposed to take them seriously.
ITT people assuming Colbert would act like he does on his show in the movie.
I don't see how people would lose interest in the movie over him getting into the movie unless they're some kind of extreme conservative. I would assume if Colbert actually got into the movie (assuming Colbert is even serious about this), that the director's wouldn't just let h8im make a mockery of their film.
Good for what you can see. Maybe stunt casting isn't for everyone and it has nothing to do with politics. Open your mind a bit....ITT people assuming Colbert would act like he does on his show in the movie.

Would you reference where you read that? If it's from History of Middle Earth that would explain why I missed it.I guess there's Cirdan if you count his beard but that's all I can think of.

"The Elves were sufficiently longeval to be called by Men "immortal", but they were not unaging or unwearying." - J.R.R. Tolkien, in a letter dated from 1963 (published in 'the Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien')

That's kind of pathetic.
Not really. It completely cheapens the experience of the movie. There shouldn't be outside cameos in a movie like this. I'm in the same boat as LJ. If he's really in it, my interest goes from through the roof to 'meh'.[QUOTE="worlock77"]

At most he'll probably be in an unspoken cameo role who's on screen for like 2-3 seconds, like Peter Jackson, Peter Jackson's kids and Viggo Mortenson's son in the 'LotR' films.

All these guys having a pissy fit over an actor playing a small acting role in a movie really is lol worthy. He is a huge fan of the lore, was invited to the sets and Peter jackson probably let him have a small couple second cameo. Like worlock said this is pretty pathetic.

Has there been anything in which he hasn't played Stephen Colbert?
Granted, it wouldn't be such a bad thing if he came up with Elf ears playing himself!

'Strangers With Candy', being a satire movie/show set in modern times, and one in which Stephen Colbert co-created and co-wrote, is a little bit differnt from something like 'the Hobbit'.
