Man, I see all these -isms, and -ists, and not just on this site (I think there are 3 on the fron page I'd never heard of until 5 minutes ago), but the other day I saw/heard these random ones like none of which I can remember.

I know a lot of acdemics like to throw these on the ends of words... but come on. Stop. It;s gets ridiculous seeing all these made up words and movements.

Has anyone else noticed this or am I paranoid?

For one, they aren't made up, for another, it's pretty much the only way to talk of such things without giving a description of what it is, which would be long and time consuming, that's what words are for after all.

if your refering to isolationism and Marxist, their both self explanitory (and not made up) if you know 2nd grade english(isolation) and 3rd grade world history (Karl Marx), their actually quite easy to figure out

It's not about figuring out what they mean, that part is obvious, it that fact that many of these words (and not the ones of this forum--as I mentioned many others) appear to be made up. An issue is raised and someone jumps up and starts calling it an -ism.

-ism´s usually pose the most accurate and time-saving solution when discussing "the finer points" of life. It is simply self-explanatory in many cases.

I use them, because i believe in the validity of ockham´s razor, so i try to span it as wide as possible, covering as many fields as i possibly can. Not doing so would, to me, be irrational. Im stoic in that way! :)

If you are fed up with the -ism´s, you should concider not participating in discussions which you suspect will draw attention from individuals with an academic profile. But that would be a loss to this community, now wouldnt it ;)

Wow. This thread was so stupid. I don't know why I decided to voice my opinion on the matter.

Maybe I should go play some more TF2...
