I have never met an adult that said that life was easy. However, at the same time, in a world that demands perfection, sometimes a student's best just isn't enough, which is a very sad thing.
Are you going to a Public High School?Locke562Yes.
When you find out that most students goof off for most of class your sympathy towards them diminishes quickly.bededogObciously I'm not that dumb, I know that kids goof off, they have all the time in the world for themselves and they don't give a flying **** about school. They can drop out for all I care. I'm talking about REAL students. There are a pretty big chunk of students that spend a lot of time focusing on school and are very stressed out because of it.
Wait until "Geez how am I going to get this paper done in time?" turns into "Man, how the hell am I supposed to pay back these student loans when nobody will hire me because they can't afford to pay me because I've double majored all the way through college?" Not implying that you're a double major, Just saying in this state, people with degrees are worth more than what some people can pay for.

I cracked on monday, I straight up slept through my o-chem test, because of the craziness of having 5 tests in 4 days.
I was pretty stressed during High School. But, now that I look back on it, I could of made it a lot easier.
University and College can be hard, but anyone who complains about the difficulty of High School is just looking for pity. McJugga
Uh, no. Constant pressure to do well to get into that University was stressful as ****.
I don't goof off, but honestly I don't care that much about high school anymore. I'm completely fine with settling for the B instead of actually working hard to get the A.
I can understand the pressure. I get it too sometimes, just not to that extent. My suggestion; don't take school too seriously. I mean, yeah, work hard, get the grades you want, but remember it's just high school and you've still got a long way to go.
Exactly. High school (at least for me, and many of my friends) is an absolute breeze. The thing that sucks about it isn't the work, it's having to sit through 7 hours a day of boredom 5 days a week.danmam2thats my case, only in my school every class is advanced, the teachers have no personalities, there are only 35 people in the whole high school, we get tons of homework, tomorrow we have 3 tests.........but ill never get out so no point arguing....
As you get older you realize things that you used to think are so hard aren't really that hard. As an adult who has been through it I can speak from example. I could relive those years over and over again compared to my life now. When your worry goes from man I don't have enough time to hang out to **** I haven't seen my family awake in 3 weeks. I have been working 18 hours every day and today I have to work 24 straight hours. If I don't get this done my company loses a big contract and I lose a job.
It makes things in high school trivial. One grade is not going to cost you college while one bad presentation can cost numerous jobs. Give adults credit. They understand that there is stress but you are asking the wrong people to empathize with

I am doing a vocation that I like but it is 10 times as stressful as high school could have ever imagined to be. What they say is true about the 2 hours outside of class for every hour in class. Even more so for junior and senior level courses. Professors tend to be evil and u will have an exam for every class in the same week. Now those are stressful weeks.
High school can be stressful if you're one of the unlucky kids who has extremely strict and demanding parents that ground you for the entire summer for anything less than an A and you're not smart enough to live up to those standards without submitting to 24/7 studying. Otherwise not really and most high school kids only say that it is because they haven't encountered anything more stressful than high school yet.
For me high school wasn't very stressful. I never studied in my life until a month before my junior year ended and I graduated with a 3.6 GPA. Often times I would have all my homework for the day completed before school let out, and when I didn't it usually didn't take me very long to finish at home. School didn't destroy my schedule with time requirements either. All in all, it was very easy. Probably the most stressful thing about high school was applying to colleges and even that wasn't too bad.
College, on the other hand, is much more demanding than high school, at least if you're planning on going to med/law/grad school.

I have an awesome job that I love. You just can't help deadlines. The software business is not simple and easy especially when dealing with large retail chains. If you work harder, you become more successful (in most cases.) I know people who seperate themselves from everyone else by worker harder and putting in more hours. Those people that put in the extra effort and time get the promotions, bonuses, etc. Those hours do suck btw :?.

They do during the time but it all balances out. There are other periods when my job gets slow for a couple weeks and I have it easy. I show up late and leave early take long lunches. Sometimes I will go see a movie. The job is also very good to me. I get 5 weeks vacation plus two weeks sick time. I have traveled to some nice places. i get random bonuses. Those are high school....A college level test is in another galaxy vs a high school one. I had days like that to in high school. I never once studied in HS. The only times my books were open in HS were for homework or following along in class. I still got A's and B's in high school. Taking 4 college level exams in the same week would be a stress equivalent to 3 straight weeks of every day testing for every class in high school from my experience.

You think you have it hard? Do you wake up at 6am everyday, go to school for about 10-12 hours, then come home and do 3-41/2 hrs of HW EACH NIGHT? Do you also play a sport year round that you actually care about and do well in? Are you involved in other extra cirriculum activities? Do you do anything outside of school besides hang out with friends? Do you get 5-6 hours of sleep? Do you get straight-As?
If you answered No to any of those questions, then stop whining. Because I do all that and I don't whine. Just do it, kid.

High school tests are nothing like college tests. Back in high school I aced most of my exams by doing nothing more than taking notes and then reading over said notes about 2-5 minutes before the exam. I enjoyed taking tests back in K-12 because they saved me from the boredom of having to sit through class doing pointless assignments and listening to a teacher drone on and on about the same subject.
In college exams are much more difficult and thus far I have actually needed to study for them. For my hardest classes I have to study nonstop for days in order to get even a decent score. Add to that the fact that each exam in a class is equal to about 25-50% of your grade on average and there's really no room for error. In high school you can bomb tests left and right and still come out with an A. In college if you bomb a test you often lose a letter grade because of it. As a result, the stress factor for tests goes way up in college. If you've ever taken an AP exam you've probably found them to be the most stressful exams besides the SAT right? Well, in college every exam is as stressful as an AP exam.
I agree completely, school has gotten harder for students these past few years. The world is a darker place now than it was in the 90's, and with the increase in unemployment, there is an increase in competition. High School Students must be extremely well-rounded to get into the college that they want, because most colleges that I know of don't accept someone who did well in school but did nothing else. Balancing all of these extra-curriculars and keeping a good GPA while doing well on the ACT and SAT is a pain, but I think I'm doing alright. It's not easy, but the best advice I can give is to have some fun. Don't stress out a lot, I stressed out freshman year and, while I didn't do bad per se, I did worse than I would have liked. I tried to keep things under control sophmore and junior year, and so far it's going really well. I'm halfway through Junior year and I've done better this year than any other year, so my strategy of not stressing too much has worked for me, but everyone's different. I agree with you completely though, things have changed since the 90's. WINDWAKER1
Please, none of that is terribly difficult compared to their college counterparts. I mean, first of all, extracurriculars only matter if you're applying to a selective school. Even then they won't make or break your application unless you're trying to apply to a top 25 school. Furthermore, if you're complaining about "all of these extracurriculars" you're doing it wrong. Colleges only want to see you with a couple of EC's that you've really achieved something important in. Anyone can be a member of a few dozen clubs and activities.
Anyway, to give you an idea of why I'm not sympathetic, I'm a neuroscience major in college and I'm hoping to go to grad school for my Ph.D. after I get my B.S. All of my classes are upper level science classes, and in order to get into grad school (even the crappy ones) I need to have A's in all of them. Anything below a 3.7 makes life hard for applications and anything below a 3.5 is a kiss of death. I also work long hours in a research lab (we're talking 40-50 hour work weeks here, no pay, on top of my schedule as a full time student). And I also have to study for the GRE which is like the SAT on steroids (aside from having the difficulty ratched up for a college student, the test is also computerized and makes itself harder for every question you answer correctly).
See, unlike undergraduate college, grad and professional schools are all extremely selective. Your average med school, for example, is as selective as Harvard's undergrad admissions (ie an acceptance rate of 8-10%). This is because for a lot of grad and professional programs you have 400-800 people applying for only 6-12 slots. It's not uncommon for kids with 4.0 GPAs and high GRE scores to get rejected by every program they apply to. Contrast this to college where most universities have acceptance rates above 40%, there's hundreds if not thousands of openings, and there's plenty of schools for every caliber of student which means that if you want a college education you will get one.
Optical_Order: I work as a project manager for a company that does photographic software. We used to work with FujiFilm, Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, Longs Drugs, and some other places but now we are exclusive with Hewlett-Packard. I also did some of the QA, Support, and development when times called for it. I am a jack of all trades.kakkarott23
Well, being project manager for that would be pretty difficult I'd assume.
Still. I can't imagine liking my job if I had to work 18 hours in a day, let alone 24...
I'm sure you get paid very nicely though. :)
Indeed a student can have a lot of stress but, as for me personally, the older I get the more reasons I have to be stressed. College has been a lot more stressful than high school. Granted, I rarely stress about anything. I guess that's why I'm on here as opposed to studying for my presentation I have at 8am in the morning... *goes back to studying the Iconoclast Controversy*mindstorm

I know exactly what you mean. Education is harder than it used to be, and yet parents think they know it all. Yet I took the same classes sophomore year in which they took in College. I got hours and hours of homework and I tried as hard as I could and it was still so freaking hard it was ridiculous, and if I do bad after I busted my ass to do good than they so I don't try. They say they have done it before, you know what I got to say to that... bull **** I would love for them to walk in my shoes for one day and see how hard everything actually is.
