I posted a similar thread a while back, here's the next one.

************

There's a lot of trends out there that I personally cannot stand, sometimes I just have to sit back and wonder "why in the heck are they doing this"? Here's some trends I cannot stand and wish were gone.

1. Flat brim hats, jeez I cannot stand these. These are mostly worn by the rapper and hip-hop crowd, as well as many high school students that see drinking and doing drugs as "cool". Some of these hats are rather square looking with a short flat brim. Its even worse when people wear these and just set them on the top of there head, so its just barely on there head.

2. Rap: Pretty much the most annoying music I have ever listened to and for some reason its popularity continues to grow. Many of these songs talk about rape, violence, and drug use as if its perfectly fine, sadly so do many of its listeners. Not all of these songs discuss this content, but the vast majority do and tend to be the more popular ones.

3. Preppy Humor T-Shirts: Such as the ones by Abercrombie, they charge $25-$35 for shirts that say "I could be your worse mistake", or "I'll make you an all star". These are very popular among the "cool" and "preppy" popular kids, Abercrombie and American Eagle excel at making these shirts.

4. Abercrombie: Enough said, why so many people pay $80 for a ripped pair of worn looking jeans is beyond me.

5. Myspace: I know there's a lot of normal people on myspace but probably 75%+ are the drinking and or rap routy teen/ college crowd who are just following this ever growing fad. I'm personally very happy to never of had a myspace account.

Mmm, I'll give this thread a 0/10 for thinking that rap only really talks about rape, sex, drugs, ect.. and thinking that the listeners think that they're all okay.

Hey, I listen to rap and I hate drugs, I know rape is wrong, and I believe sex should only be between two people who really love each other.

And the reason why the popularity of rap is still growing is the fact that everyone is not you.

Putting body and exhaust kits on beat up Civics and Neons because people watched too much Fast and the Furious. People with sub-woofers in their cars, blasting music while they drive through my neighborhood. The "emo" hair cut where they comb their hair over their eye. That's about all I can think of at the moment.

I agree, those are some good ones. It nearly hurts my eyes to see a Honda Civic with a giant steel spoiler attached to it.

I see those hats everywhere at my school, I live in L.A the rap scene is big there. Seriously almost all the rap hip hop reggeaton fans wear those hats along with those stupid shirts with bugs bunny and tazz looking all gangster with bling bling and such.

I don't myself care for rap, myspace (had an account for awhile, didn't see the point to keeping it, it's for self centered people I guess), or preppy kids who think abercrombie and fitch is the ****, but to generalize all rap as being related to sex, drugs and rape is like racial profiling, next time you should be more specific which rappers you're talking about.

I totally agree with all that said. Yeah the flat-brimmed hats! Screw those AHHHHHH! They seem to be the new thing is style among the "We're cool rappers-looking people, oooooooo". And I hate how people wear those as if "Hey I'm so cool because it's different looking"....And almost as if because it takes the "whiteness" out of baseball caps.

Thread creator: You are so right! i would add much more to the list, but you've got a great start there.  I am also happy to announce that I have never had a myspace account.  Mysape will be used as a tool of evil at the end of the world.  Count on it.

Definitely agree about Rap. While it's not as bad as rape (You may as well as call internet "a bunch of tubes" and GTA award points for killing cop), it definitely treat women poorly in most songs. As they say, the popular ones.

Here are a few things to add to the list:

  • The word trippin' .  The most annoying word now in use today, mostly by the rap-inspired people. "No girl I aint trippin'". We be trippin. You trippin' foo.
  • Depressing sounding rock music. Why? It seems every single band now is about faking sad emotions to be "cool" and is attracting more and more people to join this fakeness. (Atreyu, My Chemical Romance)
  • Rappers wearing crucifix neclaces. The single stupidest thing anyone can do. Wearing a Christian symbol to somehow look "cool". It makes no sense at all knowing they're sinning their asses off.
  • Street racing things getting attached to everyday cars. It's ridiculous. I've seen tons of sedans with spoilers put on them (mostly crappy cars, since they can't afford anything better) yet to look "cool". Along with rims put on the cheap cars to make it look like a rapper's car.

If you think rap is the only genre that talks about drugs, rape, sex, murder or whatever else you listed, you need to pay better attention to lyrics of other genres.

Rap is all about rape, sex, drugs, ect. I am yet to see a rap video in my life that doesn't involve a bunch of women almost naked hitting on the guy in the video while smoke is coming out of the guys mouths and you know its not cigarette smoke. That's all they rap about and I'm glad the rap genre is starting to get less popular because of it.

Wow. Just wow. I shall enlighten you.

This is "Paging Dr. Moon Or Gun" by Themselves. A rap group.

how'd they break it to you?
you've got cancer of the hope.

did you cry?
did you make yourself sick?
did you paint your mirror shut?

oh, that dr. moon or gun,
why, he tells you you're dead
like he just told you the time
and you ate down to your pit
so you could rap and rap...

you were out scoping bridges and boosting tanks
and so you missed the call
it was a false laugh alarm.
you had comedic cancer
a funny skinny cancer of the pants
and why it's something to really quick and go out and have some kids about
or even to go see branden and ask about a book about
and i haven't even had that first worst movie yet
and i still ain't had that first small heart attack yet
and i still ain't go no driver's license...

all in my outrageously b. don coscerelli dreams.

i can agree with a few of those things but ti seems to me alot of it is against rap just cause u dont like the genre. rap is a vary diverse music genre and if your so simple minded to think it jsut talks about that then u are very mistaken. its just like me saying every country song written expressed its love for cows.

People who dislike rap tend to have very generic tastes in music themselve's; they tend to think of their tastes as superior without even bothering to explore the genre (mainstream rap sucks). Basically, if you write off an entire genre of music you're an idiot. As for rap only talking about "rape, drugs, and sex" or whatever, I've think eminem is probably the only rapper to tackle rape. I have nothing against drugs and sex, and don't see why anyone would.

They're stupid in your opinion, just like this thread is stupid in mine. Well thats more like a fact... And rap is not a trend; and its certainy not all about violence and all that other bad stuff you described. Open your ears and mind, and stop being so damn ignorant.
