Cripes. I went on wikipedia to see what they said, and I found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_horror_filmsJandurin
On imdb, by total average vote: http://www.imdb.com/Sections/Genres/Horror/average-vote I didn't know they did that by genre :oJandurin
I didn't think they did stuff like that! Cheers!
However I still want some of the OTers opinions
I watched Halloween on Blu-Ray the other night (it looked amazing). It's one of my favorite horror movies. I'm talking about the original, not the awful remake.
For good entertaining horror with a sense of epic scope and timeless horror check out "Dawn Of The Dead" or "Day Of The Dead
They have been remade but I'm talking about the old versions. Roger Ebert gave Dawn of the dead 4/4 stars. For a horror film thats saying something. Modern horror sucks compared to 80's splatter flicks
Here is the list
1.Dawn Of The Dead
2.Day Of The Dead
3.Dawn Of the dead remake
4.28 days later
5.Alien
6.Aliens
7.The Thing
8.Evil Dead
Just some suggestions
Hellraiser was a really good horror movie that no one has mentioned yet. The original Halloween was also another horror classic.jfcundiffhmm Hellraiser is a good one. It hasn't aged perfectly, but it's still creepy as hell. OH **** We need some Poltergeist in this thread! AND some Phantasm?

Lost Boys is a favorite, but it just isn't scary :P The Omen is great. Really great. I think I need to see that again. Birds and other Hitchcock films would fit into this thread nicely. Vertigo...just remembered another i saw a few months ago The fly. That was weird.Dion2k7Hmm. True, a horror movie, I guess? Sort of sci-fi, though. For some reason, whenever I hear of The Fly, I think of Howard the Duck. lulz

Wasn't the fly the one where the man walked into a kind of teleporter, and a fly got in with him?

Yes. I think it was... Malcolm Ian from Jurassic Park. Actor name escapes me.[QUOTE="TheOddQuantum"]Hmm. True, a horror movie, I guess? Sort of sci-fi, though. Yes. I think it was... Malcolm Ian from Jurassic Park. Actor name escapes me.jeff goldblum was the actor in the film and yeah its more of a sci-fi horror than just plain horror, but still is worth the watch this time of year.

Start at terrible, and if you can work your way even to tolerable, I will be amazed.Jacob's Ladder
Hellraiser
In The Mouth of Madness
The Descent
The Excorcist is the ultimate horror film.
The Shining is another horror classic, but more of a mindf**k than actually intense.
Jacobs Ladder is a deeply disturbing, phycological horror.
If you want a decent modern slasher (as there rarely is any today), try High Tension. Extremely gory and very intense. I hope you have the oatience to read subtitles, though.
Audition is a japanese classic and features one of the most villainous females in film history, and one of the most infamous torture scenes.
Battle Royale, although more of a disturbing action film, is considered a horror for it's such horrific and disturbing plot and theme. Anoter foreign film, a class of students a put on an island and must kill each other before the time limit until one is left standing. Thats just an overview of the disturbing yet powerful film about teenage violence.
Soldier Blue....not particularly a Horror film...but quite powerful nonetheless.
Anything more traditional try Dario Argento films, Susperia etc and Lucio Fulci, Zombie Flesh Eaters (Zombi)
Cannibal Holocaust and Last House On The Left are pretty good and Manic which has great work from Tom Savini.

Audition was the one I forgot to mention. It is a movie that I want to see, but have not gotten around to doing it. Same thing with Jacob's Ladder.

I definitely recommend seeing them, particually Jacobs Ladder. A horror classic. Audition is also a great modern horror as we don't find many anymore.
