... like Mariachi, "Chinese music," and other cultural tunes from around the globe.

It's difficult to know where to start, but I'd like to broaden my musical palate by listening to stuff outside of my cultural tradition.

Great Big Sea? They are Atlantic Canadian celtic/folk music. Probably not what you meant by "world" music though...

I'd recommend the album "Calling All Dawns," by Christopher Tin (most well-known for "Baba Yetu," the theme to Civilization IV). It's sort of a world/classical crossover album.

Haha, well, I am Canadian and they come to Ottawa pretty much every year. Ive seen them twice in concert, and once at a Canada day celebration.

It's from an album called World Music and they're Swedish, what more could you want.

Jimmy Free on iTunes and his album Remember. Check him out. He is an awesome (master) violinist and truly deserves more credit.

12 Girls Band are pretty cool. They're a Chinese orchestra made up of 13 Chinese women. It used to be 12, but they recruited another because there were some lineup changes. They usually play covers of songs. I'm not sure if they actually play originals. This is them playing Silent Night, check them out.
