It's difficult to know where to start, but I'd like to broaden my musical palate by listening to stuff outside of my cultural tradition.

Haha, well, I am Canadian and they come to Ottawa pretty much every year. Ive seen them twice in concert, and once at a Canada day celebration.
There's the Yoshida Brothers if you like teh shamisen, I'm not sure if that's the kind of stuff you had in mind though.

 Jimmy Free on iTunes and his album Remember. Check him out. He is an awesome (master) violinist and truly deserves more credit.
12 Girls Band are pretty cool. They're a Chinese orchestra made up of 13 Chinese women. It used to be 12, but they recruited another because there were some lineup changes. They usually play covers of songs. I'm not sure if they actually play originals. This is them playing Silent Night, check them out.
