Is it cureable yet? Has anyone put out any kind of medicine for it?

Tamiflu. Its been blown way out of proportion. The people here in New Zealand that got it were cured and back and school within a week. Its a big joke. Only reason people are dying in Mexico is because the conditions there were already bad and they dont have good health care.
Well I was watching the news and 26 confirmed deaths have been reported for it. If there is medicine then they should have been treated. I know some people don't have the money or something but come on.

26 deaths in America? Cause last I heard there was only 1 confirmed death in America... And it was an infant too.

Yeah...There has only been that one, and that is misleading because the child was originally from Mexico, but here for treatment.[QUOTE="munkey102"]

I actually heard that the confrimed death toll world wide is actually up to.... NINE! GASP! THE WORLD IS GOING TO END! Well, it really sucks, cause we think that swine flu might of found its way into my school today. One high school in the area was closed today, and will be again tomorrow. And it was marching band people that are thought to be infected, and lo and behold, our school hosted a band thing yesterday. It wasn't fun seeing the janitors comeing in with disinfectant in the middle of orchestra class today.[QUOTE="Grodus5"]I actually heard that the confrimed death toll world wide is actually up to.... There are over 160 dead in mexico alone.....
Suspected vs. Confrimed ftw? Suspected deaths are up to 160, confrimed deaths (I just checked, seems someone reanimated) are at 8 worldwide. There are a million ways to kill a man, just because someone had swine flu and died while under it doesn't mean they died because of it.I was watching the news on base yesterday. They pretty much closed mexico and if you are there right now you are not coming back until things are controlled. But then again the media blows everything out of proportion.
Wow, that's not much time. So what happens when you aren't treated within the 48 hours?Tamiflu only works if it is taken within 48 hours of contracting the virus.

Bingo! The only reason why people are getting their pants in a knot over this is because there is a significant death toll in a developing nation and most people are unable to make the connection that a bad standard of living usually equals a higher mortality rate. Heck, if the media really wanted to scare people they should be reporting about how often people die of malaria and such in Africa.Tamiflu. Its been blown way out of proportion. The infant, who did indeed die, was from Mexico and actually already had a respiratory problem. This whole thing is being blown way out of proportion. Thousands die from the flu every year, this one's just a new mutation of an old one, so it's getting far more coverage. People get their tests sent in, and by the time the results come back positive and confirm their having swine flu, they're already healthy again.
Their were a few reported cases in my state of MA. People are afraid though because one of my friends girlfriend just came back from mexico and she lives in the town where the cases were confirmed. If he brings it back to us we won't be happy. I don't want a week off of school because then we get out around the dead end of June which blows.

You could potentially be in trouble. That is why mexico is having issues. They have the medication, but can't get it to people. Many are afraid to go into "infected" areas to help and the Mexican people aren't really all about going to a doctor when they get a fever.

thats their problem...my college biology proffesor says "swine flu" was always treatable. its just the fact that it's evolving to include human, avian, and swine flu is whats making it worse, as that would require 2 different vaccines and it'd take 6 months to 1 year to make enough for the majority of the U.S., some countries already have everyone vaccined because of smaller populations though
but in the meantime like 4 of my classes were centered around this flu strain, and thus no homework :D
swine flu is so hype up its not even funny...its a munted strain of the avian flu and its just about the same thing as the common influzima virus which does kill hundreads of people every year and people a vacine like this can be easily produced its just distrubing it around the world is the problem remember medicine still a business!
What really is overkill is Egypt butchering all 400,00 of the nation's pigs as a precautionary measure. ****ing ridiculous. hamstergeddonNPR. Good station,. You should tune in every once in a while ;)

It is truly a sad day in the world now. :(
As numerous others have said, this is being blown way out of proportion and there are a lot of uninformed people. For example, someone today told me that they ate bacon for dinner last night and were worried about getting swine flu. *facepalms*

You should tune in every once in a while ;) I listen to a couple different NPR affiliates all day every day, but missed this story. However, I did learn from them that the school district where my mom is a school nurse has been shut down due to presumptive positive swine flu tests from students.
You know, the media is to blame for this, just like they are for the current economic crisis. They fear monger and cause everyone to panic. Now people are afraid of pork and wont spend their own money which is the only way to revive the economy. Media = buttholes. As numerous others have said, this is being blown way out of proportion and there are a lot of uninformed people. This, and it's all because of the media who's trying to make a profit off of over hyping it. Yesterday I saw several sites (MSNBC, Yahoo, etc) with the home page story about "Confirmed US swine flu death", yet it's not a big deal because the person that died was a 23-month-old from Mexico so it's not really an American deathI think people are overreacting over this whole thing.
