Okay so today I got that stupid drivecleaner.com pop-up (you know the "you have visted adult sites which can harm your marriage, blah, blah) I didn't install it though. But it did make me concerned, did that pop-up come from a spy/adware app? I'm wondering if I should system restore just to be on the safe side. I don't know if I should though since I don't really know how it works. Any advice? I've only had this laptop for under a week, and I was using Firfox when the pop-up came up.

Just run a scan with your spyware program (make sure it's up to date first) then if it catches it then you can delete it. You could also clear your internet cache (or run CCleaner if you have it). If you can't do either of these things then do a system restore only if you're really concerned that it may have dome something. Wait a bit and see if your machine starts acting weird.

Yeah don't really have any reliable anti-virus programs besides Windows Live OneCare and Window's Defender. Ran spyware checks on both, and they came up with no threats in the results. Think I'll just system restore seeing that I've only had this laptop for a week and didn't download anything much besides FireFox

Actually, System Restore doesn't do much these days since practically all good spyware and viruses are designed to re-install themselves after you finish the system restore. If it really is spyware, get yourself Ad-aware or Spybot S&D (I suggest you get both) and do a full scan in Safe Mode. That's the most reliable way of removing malware and viruses.

The word is "literally."

And that is the exact opposite of "literally" so no.

Anyway, OP, do a system restore like everyone said. Also, try a Spyware removal program. In the past I would have recommended Ad-Aware specifically, but some people are complaining about it not updating the definitions properly lately. It still might be worth a shot though.

Yeah I just did a system restore, but I have no idea if it's gone or not. Guess I have to wait til I get a good anti-virus program to really be sure, or wait until it happens (*crosses fingers that it doens't)
