I think Im gonna take a duel major at my school. I just looked at the courses required for each, half the classes required are the same for each major, plus one has alot of classes that are offered as summer courses, leaving only a few class's left that can be taken as electives and extra courses that will allow me to graduate in 4 years with 2 degrees.

Should I do it? Itll cost a bit more and take alot of work.

If you are absolutely sure (i.e. you have asked the advising department and/or registrar) that overlapping courses don't have to be made up elsewhere...

If you have chosen two majors that complement each other...

Then go for it. Be prepared though, it'll be very tough.

Are they using pistols or swords? :| Sorry bad joke. What do you plan to do with your majors. if it will benefit your future career choice then yes but if you are doing it just to do it then no.

The two majors are Marine Saftey/Environemental Protection and Emergency Management which are two majors that really can go hand and hand. Like I was saying there are over ten class in each major that are exactly the same and that are required to be taken for each major. Then one major has seven class offered for summer courses. That leaves ten classes left, 2 which can be taken for electives, so 8 classes, which i can spread out to atleast 3 each year as extra classes.

It can be worked out if I do it right and I should talk to someone like you said to try to plan it out, but from what I cant tell it can be done. But like I said just less free time and more work.

If you can do it, by all means go for it. But, if you have any doubts then heed to your conscious. It will be alot of work (I mean alot, I could never go through with it) but if the ends justify the means then go ahead with it.

I'm currently doing a "duel" major as well: Economics and Finance. They are excellent compliments.

Minor note: 2 majors =/= 2 degrees. I had two majors, but received a single degree. Most colleges will require an additional year's worth of work after completion of the first degree before a second degree can be awarded. Doesn't matter, though. This is still something that employers will smile upon.

it's worth it, but I'd first make sure they allow duel credit. I know some schools don't allow you to apply credits towards both majors. I'd talk to a advisor and double check that it's possible, then go for it.

Go for it...thoughI wouldn't recommend your second major be english...its "dual", not "duel".

Your school has duel majors? Like, with guns? Or do you use swords?

Please tell me one of them is not English...

Double majors (or dual majors) isn't that hard at my college. I'm going after a BA in History, a BA in Religion, a minor in Philosophy, and a minor in Creative Writing. The problem is that I need to fit an extra class in to cover another requirement...

I would recommend doing another major if you can, and if you feel it will really contribute to your overall attractiveness to a future job.

You will have to clear stuff up with your school. It used to be easier to do 2 degrees liek that, but a lot of schools are now changing it so you can't do a double degree (and use the same classes in both).

Are you want to degrees? (what degrees?)

Or do you want to just do a double major? (for example a BSc with a double major, say Chemistry and Biochemistry...that means you have a double major, but you only graduate with one degree)

if you can, aim for majors that are moderately connected... it will reduce the amount of classes you would have to take and you would understand b

I'm thinking about dual majoring also but I am waiting until I speak to an advisor. Do not just go and jump into a second without a professonal's opinion.

It's not only more cost effective, but it's also smarter to get a MA in one area.

What school do you go to where it's that easy to get a Masters? It takes 2 years of FT grad school to get a MA at most colleges.
